The Job : The Controller is responsible for oversight of all accounting, purchasing, payroll, and banking activities.

Responsibilities Finance and Accounting Leadership Monitor and maintain overall governance, policies and procedures for accounting and reporting requirements.

Ensure accurate and timely internal financial reporting and adherence to appropriate internal controls and accounting practices.

Oversee all accounting activity with full responsibility for general ledger quality and accuracy in full compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

Research and implement new accounting standards and applicable laws / regulations. Maintain internal control and safeguards for all transactions, with emphasis on cash receipt and disbursements, financial reporting and anti-fraud programs.

Lead the preparation of the agenda and materials for the Board's Audit Committee in collaboration with the CFO. Manage the activities of annual external financial statement audits and periodic outsourced internal audits.

Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Accounting Projects to : Oversee compliance and audit requirements for government grants and contracts.

Maintain the accounting for donor-directed gifts including appropriate gift designations and release of all donor-directed funds when time / purpose restrictions are met.

Oversee the preparation of tax and regulatory filings, managing the relationship with the independent tax preparer, and prepare multi-state charitable organization registration requirements.

Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain a system to consistently and accurately report financial results on GAAP and management basis with reconciliation between the two methods.

Oversee the treasury function and cash management. Lead the day-to-day activities for investments and banking including endowment accounting / reporting, banking relationships, online banking platform access controls, wire / ACH controls, merchant processing, and debt compliance reporting.

Lead the administration of financial software. Ensure interface to the accounting system enable accurate recording of all financial transactions.

Lead the creation and regular refresh cycle of the financial policies and procedures for the Museum including clear and proactive communication to the Museum's non-financial staff.

In collaboration with the General Counsel, oversee insurance and risk management programs. Lead continuous improvement projects across the organization to drive increased understanding of program costs and reduction of administrative costs.

Partner closely and seamlessly with the division's other directors to jointly lead all finance and accounting activities.

Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Seven (7) to ten (10) years of accounting and finance experience. Experience in accounting and audit preferred with a knowledge of nonprofit tax reporting requirements.

Bachelor's degree and CPA are required; MBA is preferred. Skilled at coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and accounting for restricted accounts and investments.

A proactive, hands-on strategic thinker with a high level of integrity and credibility. Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced business environment.

Technologically savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors;

advance knowledge of accounting and reporting software. Keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.

High interpersonal acumen and emotional intelligence to lead peers and achieve goals. Language : Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of senior management, board members, employees of the organization or outside partners.

Mathematical : Ability to present and report financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, pro-ration, etc .

Reasoning : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Physical : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit;

climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
