Director of Underwriting - Liquor Legal Liability (Hybrid)

What you will do
The Director of Underwriting - Liquor Legal Liability will ensure that the underwriting team reporting to them is properly underwriting and pricing new and renewal business that is handled in the business segment.
Provides technical underwriting direction, including development of underwriting guidelines and rate recommendations, down to oversight of day-to-day execution of risk selection and pricing.
This includes profit improvement plans, loss ratio & loss frequency results monitoring, and corrective actions. Responsible for timely and accurate policy document issuance.
Achievement of segments business plan objectives, including underwriting profit, expense ratio, combined ratio, Get Rate, and loss ratio results.
The Director of Underwriting - Liquor Legal Liability will also be responsible for ensuring that underwriters are effectively pipelining business, coaching, and mentoring their supervisors to ensure a high performing underwriting team.
The Director will also assist in sales support with agent or affiliate visitation and relationship building for current and future sales success for the segment.
Assists Head of Specialty Lines with development of strategy for the segment on a 12 and 36 month basis.
- Manage the Underwriting Department for the Liquor Legal business segment operations.
- For risk selection and underwriting review functions, provide technical supervision and surveillance, including Quality Control spot-check duties.
- Carry out responsibilities as to all personnel, making certain that the tasks of hiring, firing, administering salaries, counseling, reviewing performance, and training are properly handled.
- Evaluate changes in rates, coverages, rules, regulations, statutes, or any other external factors having possible impact on the business segment’s experience and using these evaluations, take proper action locally and make recommendations to the Home Office wherever appropriate.
- Monitor loss experience and take appropriate underwriting action to improve this experience.
- Working with the Head of Specialty Lines Division Executive, evolve work flow procedures to ensure adequate service to the Company’s producers and to facilitate internal processing.
- Maintain effective liaison with the Head of Enterprise sales and RVPs; oversee the planning of agency visits by all underwriting personnel.
- Prepare bulletins and letters to producers transmitting notices of changes in manual pages, rates, underwriting policies, and procedures, etc.
What you need
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting preferred.
- Minimum 3 years Commercial Lines Underwriting Leadership experience preferred.
- CPCU, IIA Underwriting series preferred.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of P&C Commercial lines of business.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.

Salary Range : $150,000 - 225,000
The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee’s work experience, their geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities in the role, and additional qualifications.
This position is bonus eligible.
