Summary
Under general supervision and following established procedures, maintains state and federal mandated standards of safety and cleanliness by performing assigned tasks that include but are not limited to : biohazardous waste handling and management, soiled utility carts and rooms, entrances and conference rooms set ups, operating rooms, emergency rooms, restrooms, patient and non-patient rooms and areas.
Helps promote the mission and values of Cape Fear Valley Health System. Must be friendly, helpful and eager to go the extra mile to satisfy patients, visitors and staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read and understand English in order to follow instructions, job assignments, schedules, work orders and chemical labels.
Some experience in Hospital and or Institutional Environmental Services department is preferred. Ability to perform under stress when confronted with an emergency.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills in interacting with patients, visitors and co-workers. Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
May come in contact with blood or other bodily fluids containing blood born pathogens. May be subject to hazards : Infectious / contagious disease, needle sticks, chemicals, slippery floors, and working while on stepladder.
May be subject to atmosphere conditions : dust, fumes, odors, and aerosol sprays. (Constant 67-100% of work day, Frequent 34-66% of work day, Occasional 33% or less of work day.
Constant : STOOPING : Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. CROUCHING : Bending body downward and forward by bending leg at the spine.
STANDING : Particularly for a long period of time. WALKING : Moving about on foot to accomplish certain tasks, particularly for long distances.
TALKING : Involves expression and exchange of ideas. Communicating clearly and effectively with patients, visitors and staff.
HEARING : Perceiving the nature of sound at a normal range. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
REACHING : Extending arms and hands in any direction. PUSHING : Using upper extremities to press against something in order.
LIFTING : Raising an object from a lower position to a higher position. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Normal visual acuity necessary to check for cleanliness and neatness of work against established standards.
Ability to see stains and tears in linen and laundry when sorting and folding.
