Department Information
The mission of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is to educate, advocate, engage, and empower the IU Indianapolis community by cultivating partnerships and resources to sustain an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment.
The Office of Accessible Educational Services (AES) resides within DEI and grounds a philosophy of full access through a disability justice framework.

AES also nurtures a philosophy of access and inclusion, actively addressing individual and structural ableism through strategic campus partnerships with students, faculty, staff, academic colleges, technical services, and professional schools.

Job Summary
The Senior Associate Director will facilitate AES's supportive efforts of IUI concerning the 3-Step process of implementing compliance regulations that include working with faculty and students through an interactive process.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Leads the operationalization of various components of the office's overall functions.
- Serves as a designated administrator of AES in the director's absence.
- Supervises professional staff and hourly employees, including 2 Accommodation Specialists and the Administrative Assistant.
- Participates in critical decision-making around ADA accommodations.
- Manages strategic partnerships and initiatives (Accessible Educational Services Community of Practice).
- Serves on various campus committees.
- Actively assists the Director in planning new initiatives and supervising exempt staff.
- Works with our professional schools (IUSM, McKinney Law, and Dental Schools), students, and faculty interactively when needed, accommodating students doing their program requirements (e.
g., clinical / assessments / practicums and internships).
- Facilitates the supervisory responsibilities of AES's Yearly Disability Awareness Month Program and supports staff with our monthly Connect to Achieve Program.
- Represents the Accessible Educational Services (AES) to internal committees with executive administrators, external community-based partners, and within the AES Community of Practice (AESCoP).
- Provides campus access to content and resources, promotes equity-mindedness, and fosters a sense of belonging for the disabled community.
- Works directly with the Director to develop community and campus engagement for Disabled Students and Students with Disabilities at IU Indianapolis.
- Connects with Centers and Programs already on campus (e.g., Internship and Scholarship opportunities) and those offered by community constituents (e.g., Transition from K-12).
General Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day operational management of educational resources staff.
- Establishes short-term operational objectives.
- Identifies operational issues and / or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and / or operational efficiency.
- Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
- Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
- Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and / or assigned staff.
- Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve educational resources operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
- Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry educational resources standards, best practices, and emerging technology;
keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.

EDUCATION
Required
Master's degree in related field (Rehabilitation Counseling highly desired).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
2 years in related field.
Preferred
- 4 years of experience in disability services, higher education administration, or a related field. Strong knowledge of ADA, Section 504 compliance, and other relevant regulations.
- Experience working with marginalized disabled people of the global majority and justice-based equity initiatives; knowledge of critical theory a plus.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
