The Sanmina Fremont facility is a full-service enclosure systems solution manufacturing plant. Located in California’s Silicon Valley, this facility produces low-to-mid volume New Product Introduction (NPI) runs to full-scale volume.

The Fremont facility offers everything from small piece parts to fully integrated and tested systems. In addition, this location offers in-house painting capabilities and flexible logistics solutions in distribution, inventory management and hubbing, as well as repair services.

Job Purpose :

We are looking for an experienced Technical PM with a strong background in backplane, chassis / enclosure product development and manufacturing, to support the design and development of high speed backplanes, modules and sub-systems to meet our customers’ needs.

This position, reporting to the VP Business Operations, involves both leading and supporting projects from concept definition, detailed design, process definition and development, prototyping and qualification phases, through to implementation into volume manufacturing.

Will also support bid and proposal activities.

Nature of Duties Responsibilities :

  • Understanding of customer needs, ability to creatively leverage Sanmina's technical capabilities and NPI service resources to identify and facilitate solutions for customers
  • Working as a close partner with the sales team on customer strategies, by providing comprehensive technical support and guidance to drive design wins, maximum margins and market share
  • Developing relationships with customer engineers and technical management
  • Provide project leadership to coordinate design, development and manufacturing solutions for backplane and subsystems solutions to meet customer specifications.
  • Support the business development and engineering teams in the creation and communication of customer program proposals in response to customer RFIs or RFQs.
  • Working with the development team to define all aspects of the development program through our Product Development Process, in-line with customers’ requirements.
  • Provide initial design concepts, including research of new components.
  • Consult and work directly with customers to develop and understand requirements, in order to ensure a competitive proposal.
  • Attend trade shows and network with customers and other vendors on latest technologies
  • Oversee prototype and pre-production builds through definition and management of build plans and supply chain.
  • Work closely with NPI team to support execution of NPI activities, including, but not limited to supply chain management and qualification, ramp planning and scheduling, manufacturing readiness and product qualification and supply / demand management.
  • Work closely with R&D / Engineering and Manufacturing Operations for efficient NPI.
  • Support program management team and drive on-time and on-budget execution of the defined program.
  • Some travel may be required

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct and relevant experience in Program Management, Field Application Engineering and / or Product Development.
  • Experience designing electro mechanical solutions. Knowledge of Solidworks is desired
  • Basic mechanical and manufacturing process knowledge is expected.
  • Understanding of the product development process, from concept design, to NPI, through to volume manufacturing, including qualification.
  • Experience transferring complex products and processes into manufacturing.
  • Experience analyzing project related data and utilization of standard project management tools and documentation and planning systems.
  • Experience in a broad range of backplane, chassis, and subsystems technologies, including materials and components and their supply chains, is considered an asset.

Knowledge of Open Standards such OpenVPX preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Customer focused and demonstrated problem solver.
  • Time management and organizational skills are an essential part of this position
  • Understanding of sales activities, sales cycle and techniques
  • Strong oral and written communication skills Extensive experience with U.S. Government contracts, including FAR and DFARS

Salary Range (annual) : $95000 - $115,000
