King County Parks division is currently seeking two (2) Term-limited Program Managers to join our dynamic team of skilled grant professionals.
Together, we will work to transform our parks and recreational spaces, creating opportunities, that drive meaningful change in our communities.
About the Role :
In this position (Project / Program Manager II), you'll play a key role in shaping the future of parks and recreation by supporting multiple grant programs and collaborating with grantees to bring transformative community projects to life.
Your key responsibilities in this role will include :
Grant Program Support : Collaborate with grantees and internal teams to bring grant awards to contract, ensuring accurate invoicing and reporting.
You'll help advance the Parks mission by facilitating grantmaking to local and Tribal governments, nonprofits, and community groups.
- Outreach and Technical Assistance : Conduct outreach and provide comprehensive technical assistance to various applicants, ensuring they have the guidance needed to succeed.
- Request for Application Development and Review : Partner on the process of developing a request for grant application and reviewing and evaluating grant applications to select impactful community projects.
- Grant Management : Manage grants and contracts in accordance with standard operating procedures and policies, ensuring compliance and effective program delivery.
About the Team :
The Parks Community Investments and Engagement Unit is responsible for a variety of grant portfolios that fund community parks and recreation initiatives across the region.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing :
- Relationship Management : Build and maintain strong relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to foster collaboration and success.
- Technical Support : Provide expert technical assistance to grant applicants, recipients, community partners, and internal teams.
- Organizational Skills : Organize and prioritize your work effectively to adapt to changing needs and meet deadlines.
- Grant Management : Oversee grant contracts, ensuring compliance with regulations and funding parameters. You'll develop, track, and amend scopes of work, budgets, work plans, and contract deliverables.
- Compliance Oversight : Follow standard operating procedures for contracting, invoicing, and reporting, while processing payment requests with appropriate documentation.
You'll also ensure compliance with King County and Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery (CLFR) funding requirements.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring :
- Educational background or professional experience in fields such as grant or project management, community development, public affairs, urban planning, natural resource management, parks and recreation or similar, plus at least one year of experience in grantmaking across the full grant lifecycle.
- Proven ability to apply principles of equity, social justice and anti-racism in programs and policies.
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills including writing / proofreading, making presentations, and communicating cross-culturally with diverse partners.
- Demonstrated ability to working collaboratively in a team environment with a variety of multi-disciplinary partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams), Zoom or similar video conferencing software, and shared file management software.

It Would Be Great If You Also Bring :
- Two or more years of relevant grantmaking experience, including contracting, invoicing, and compliance.
- Strong expertise in supporting the Request for Application (RFA) processes for various grant programs with unique funding requirements.
- Previous experience with grant management software and tools, such as Foundant or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of grant priorities, such as equitable access to recreational programs, support for sports and physical activity, development of parks, improvement of recreational facilities, open space development, habitat restoration, and the restoration of natural functions of rivers.
- Expertise in areas such as capacity building, recreational programs, land acquisition, feasibility studies, planning and design projects, and capital construction.
- Proven ability to manage relationships with stakeholders, including cities, tribes, community-based organizations, nonprofit and grassroots coalition partnerships, and public entities.
Working Conditions :
Onsite Work Details : Employees in this role predominantly work remotely from a home location, with onsite reporting requirements typically 2 times a month.
The frequency of onsite work is determined by business needs and may be adjusted accordingly. Onsite reporting locations may be at various King County worksites, including the collaboration space at King Street Center (201 S.
Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104). This work arrangement promotes work-life-balance and reduces carbon footprint under the department's vision of Green Where We Work.
- Work Location Requirement : Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule : This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is not exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
- Union Representation : This position is represented by a Professional and Technical Employees union Local 17.
- Duration : This recruitment aims to fill two (2) Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) positions with an anticipated duration of 18 months each.
If the position is filled by a King County employee who has successfully completed their initial probation, they will be offered the role as a Special Duty Assignment.
