Job Summary :

As an Environmental Science Specialist, you will research, design, plan, or perform technical duties in the support of revisions to Arizona’s State Implementation Plan under the Federal Clean Air Act.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Job Duties : Work may include :

  • 1) Conduct air quality modeling using a variety of models (AERMOD, CAMx, Hysplit, MOVES, WRF, SMOKE);
  • 2) Calculate emission inventories from natural and anthropogenic sources, using EPA-approvable methodologies;

3) Conduct statistical analyses, literature reviews, and research to better understand the nature and cause of air

quality problems in the State;

4) Develop associated documents for the tasks above, including modeling protocols and technical support documents,

emission inventory preparation plans and technical support documents, and reports and presentations of research.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) :

The ability to understand and interpret environmental rules and statutes; balance, prioritize and organize multiple tasks.

The ability to complete assignments by applicable deadlines; synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly.

The ability to develop and write technical documentation; and to summarize completed tasks and recommendations to senior staff through reports.

Knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations, environmental engineering and technology principles and practices, chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations they undergo in the environment, Agency policies and processes.

Selective Preference(s) :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, atmospheric chemistry / science, meteorology or environmental science.
  • Experience : Level 2 : Minimum of 2 years’ experience (Masters’ or Doctorate degree can substitute for 2 years

of experience)Level 3 : Minimum of 5 years’ experience (Masters’ or Doctorate degree can substitute for 2 or 4 years of

experience respectively)

Certifications required : Level 2 : No certification requiredLevel 3 : EPI or QEP with the Board of Global EHS Credentialing or an equivalent organization in a

reciprocal jurisdiction or the ability to obtain their EPI or QEP with the Board of Global EHS

Credentialing within 12 months of employment; OREIT or PE with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration or an equivalent jurisdictions

organization or the ability to obtain their EIT or PE with the Arizona Board of Technical

Registration within 12 months of employment.
