Job Description :

The incumbent in this position will, under structured supervision, work as a member of the Production Services Team and will work in the area of audio materials production at the Braille and Talking Book Library within the Division of Blind Services in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the timely and quality preparation of recorded materials including, but not limited to, monitoring, reviewing, and editing recording sessions.

Interact daily with the volunteer narrators, monitors and reviewers and support if needed.

Organize production files digitally and physically in compliance with guidelines.

Communicate with the studio coordinator, the Publication Production Specialist, and the Production Supervisor, keeping them informed on current projects and any issues that may occur

Collaborate with the Publication Production Specialist, assisting in producing braille materials.

Contribute to creating materials for training on braille and studio equipment and software.

Attend departmental meetings as requested.

Follow the quality assurance policies and standards of the National Library Service of the Library of Congress.

Attend training offered by NLS and stay current on processes and protocols.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two years of library experience.
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge and understanding of the services of the Braille and Talking Book Library.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Be competent with technology and be proficient in or able to learn digital recording and / or editing software.
  • Be willing to continually train on current processes and protocols.
  • Ability to maintain organization and demonstrate effective organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • The employee in this position should have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and should thoroughly understand the proper use of equipment in the unit.
  • The employee in this position should have good communication skills and be able to articulate the needs of the unit with the volunteers assigned to that area.
  • The employee in this position must also be able to walk, stand, bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift a maximum of 25 pounds safely and easily.
  • The employee in this position must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance expectations sometimes under stressful conditions.
  • The employee in this position must interact courteously with others.
  • The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.
