POSITION SUMMARY :
To be fully engaged in providing Quality / No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by assisting in medical care of patients and supporting front desk functions as needed under the direction of the providers, clinical associates or operational leadership.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Quality / No Harm :
- Accurately prepares and performs point of care testing such as urine dipstick, blood glucose, etc. as directed by LPN, RN or provider.
- Administers all medications as ordered and assures all documentation is noted. Controlled substances, insulin and allergy doses must be checked by LPN, RN or provider.
- Knowledge regarding location of emergency equipment / supplies and how to use such equipment / supplies.
- Familiar with the Health First Emergency Kardex and responsibilities as a Health First Associate.
- Performs patient clinical intake, assists other clinical providers with office procedures, and accurately documents patient data.
- Administers injections ordered.
- Answers internal and external customer inquiries, directing messages to the appropriate individuals.
Stewardship :
- Coordinates medical supply ordering with site manager.
- Utilizes supplies / equipment in a proficient and cost-effective manner when performing various procedures.
- Completes all required documentation and / or required forms; Maintains confidentiality.
- Assists Site Manager with implementing and ensuring compliance with policies.
- Responsible for reporting to supervisor and / or appropriate departmental supervisor any technical, mechanical or electrical issues as well as suite maintenance needs or problems.
Customer Experience :
- Demonstrates and maintains working knowledge of front desk procedures and assists in these functions when dictated by workload.
- Communicates effectively with customers (patients, physicians, and other Health First Associates) practicing excellent customer relation skills at all times while organizing and directing daily medical assistant functions.
- Assist physician in care and education of patients of various ages and levels of understanding.
- Ensures that all exam rooms and equipment are stocked, cleaned, and ready for the next patient.
- Accepts changes to the schedule or workflow based on patient volumes.
- Mentors co-workers and students.
- Assist patients with scheduling questions by accessing the scheduling system and ability to print needed information.
- Provides patient follow up and education to ensure patient’s participation in their care.
- Identifies and addresses informal complaints of patients or employees and refers formal issues to immediate supervisors or appropriate departmental directors.
- Provides a communication channel for Practice Manager and other departments.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and written with physicians, supervisors, co-workers, patients and vendors.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : High school graduate or equivalent.
Certification / License :
Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card
Must be able to pass colorblind testing to perform POC tests requiring color change
Knowledge / Skills :
Visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform clinical / technical tasks
Must pass color blindness test
Microsoft Office and other office equipment and systems and business applications related to role

Communication
Medical terminology.
Flexible and adaptable to work in fast-paced environment, changes in workflow, tasks or processes.
Assess and interpret data to problem solve or provide appropriate response.
Knowledge of exposure to bio hazardous waste, MSDS substances, and communicable diseases.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Must be able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for up to 12 hours, generally with 2-3 short breaks.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted and transfer patients from wheelchair or standing position to exam table; correct body mechanics necessary to avoid injury to patient or self.
Visual acuity and hand / eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.
Regularly required to sit, use hands to feel, talk, and hear.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach.
COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT / SKILLS CHECKLIST :
Knowledge of sterile techniques in instrument preparation, calibration, and use.
Pediatric specific skills, if applicable to site (Accurately assesses and documents vital signs of pediatric patients, including height, weight, blood pressure, TPR, and head circumference as indicated).
Maintains growth chart on each child.
Administers immunizations as ordered by physician, documents and logs information, and instructs parents as needed to ensure continuity of care.
