Assistant Attorney General IV | Law Enforcement Defense (Employment Law)

Overview

The Law Enforcement Defense Division's (LEDD) docket includes highly complex and high-profile civil litigation with emphasis on constitutional law, civil rights, employment litigation, tort litigation, religious liberties, and class actions. LEDD defends the state's law enforcement agencies and their officials in civil proceedings in federal and state court. The division handles motion and discovery practice, frequent courtroom appearances, jury trials, and matters at the Fifth Circuit and state court of appeals. LEDD is seeking a licensed attorney with litigation experience in tort or employment law who demonstrates excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Represents state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in state and federal court.
• Manages all aspects of litigation, including legal research, memoranda, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions, hearings, mediations, and trials (lead or co-counsel) in Texas and federal court; post-trial debriefings.
• Provide exceptional client service and collaborate effectively with attorneys and staff in a dynamic office environment.
• Advise and assist client state agencies and law enforcement entities on legal matters.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant laws and practices; manage a docket of complex cases; ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Adhere to agency policies and ethics requirements; work regular hours and, as needed, beyond 40 hours per week in compliance with FLSA.
• Travel as required (up to 25%), in-person work at the assigned OAG location, and ability to relocate or work with coworkers on-site as needed.
