Title : Accountant III, School Nutrition Financial
Performs high-level accounting functions to support the School Nutrition Department’s operation and ensure efficient fiscal management and compliance for DeKalb County School District (DCSD).
Essential Functions :
- Through collaboration with the School Nutrition Department, ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all School Nutrition program’s financial transactions.
- Through collaboration with the School Nutrition Department, oversee the preparation and posting of all School Nutrition program’s journal entries.
- Perform regular reconciliation of the School Nutrition Department’s general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy.
- Perform the School Nutrition Department’s monthly bank reconciliation.
- Through collaboration with the School Nutrition Department, prepare and submit required financial reports to external agencies promptly.
- Track and manage all School Nutrition Department’s revenue sources. Identify and apply for grants and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
- Implement internal controls to prevent and detect discrepancies.
- Collects and analyzes data to detect deficient controls, inefficiencies, and / or non-compliance with District / State / Federal policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and GDOE’s Financial Management for Georgia Local Units of Administration (FMGLUA) guidance.
Evaluates risks of these deficiencies and develops improvement recommendations.
Collaborate with the Accounting Manager III and School Nutrition Department staff on any noted issues / deficiencies / improvements needed while reviewing data.
Develops appropriate corrective actions and the implementation of recommended solutions.
- Provide advanced subject matter support on complex Finance issues.
- Assist in providing supporting financial documentation for audits
- Provide professional customer service to all stakeholders, internal & external.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Economics with 1 - 4 years of related experience required.
A bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of working experience related to Accounting and the School Nutrition program required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) preferred.
