Human Resources Support - Part-Time/Temporary Role

The Human Resources team for the School Support function provides one-stop support for CPS school administrators for all HR-related needs, including discipline, guidance, timely assistance, and executive consultation.

Other efforts include improvements to online systems and seamless transitions from one school year to the next.

Job Summary :

The Human Resources (HR) Specialist will work as a cross-trained, cohesive team member responsible for delivering impeccable customer service and ensuring the timely, accurate completion of all assigned tasks and transactions.

This part-time / temporary position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 30 hours per week for an anticipated period of 6 months beginning in June 2024 and ending in December 2024.

Due to the part-time / temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position. This role will report to the HR Manager.

The part-time / temporary Human Resources Support Role will be held accountable for the following responsibilities :

• Develop an in-depth knowledge of the assigned portfolio and provide specific support as designated by the HR Manager to meet the departments’ current needs
• Partner with portfolio hiring managers to review, create and refine comprehensive job descriptions, process open role requests and post roles
• Support high-volume requests and complete activities related to offer requests, performance management, retirements / resignations, restructures, and other HR-related functions for all assigned departments.
• Other duties as assigned

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the part-time / temporary Human Resources Support Role must possess the following qualifications :

Education Required :

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required

Experience Required :

• Minimum of three (3) years of high-volume human resources operations or generalist-level experience in a fast-paced work environment is required
• Experience facilitating trainings or workshops, supporting complex projects / programs, and implementing strategic HR systems and programs is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide customer service and support to CPS employees at all levels of the organization
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of constituents
• Capable of success both working independently and as part of a team; ability to successfully collaborate with team members to address transactions efficiently
• High levels of integrity, honesty, credibility, and the ability to communicate difficult yet necessary decisions
• Ability to uphold confidentiality, remain objective, use sound judgment when faced with challenging decisions or situations, and identify when matters need to be escalated for additional guidance
• Ability to define problems, analyze data and information presented, and outline valid conclusions and action steps for resolving the issues identified
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with and / or the ability to use / learn to use programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

and Google Workspace (Google sheets, GMail, etc.)

Able to quickly learn and understandCPS Board Rules and Policies, and software systems.

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to :

Establish / Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.

The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary / part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.

Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire.

Up-to-date on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
