Department Profile

The ISG Financial Crimes Risk ( FCR ) Team is embedded within the Firm’s business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types.

The FCRCO Team is considered the first line of defense and supports the onboarding and enhanced due diligence processes for Morgan Stanley.

Position Overview

The Program Governance Associate will support the execution and ongoing management of the governance framework for the First Line Financial Crimes Risk function.

This role will assist in the development and implementation of governance processes, risk oversight, reporting, and regulatory compliance activities.

The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a foundational understanding of financial crimes risk, including anti-money laundering (AML), know your customer (KYC), and sanctions regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

Governance Support :

Assist in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the program governance framework. Support the governance lead in ensuring that governance processes are effectively implemented and maintained.

Data Collection & Analysis :

Gather and analyze data related to program performance, risk metrics, and control effectiveness. Provide insights and recommendations based on findings to enhance governance processes.

Documentation & Reporting :

Prepare governance documentation, including minutes from governance forums, working group meetings, and risk committee reports.

Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Risk & Control Monitoring :

Support the monitoring of key financial crime risks by tracking governance-related activities and ensuring risks are escalated and managed in line with established processes.

Regulatory Compliance :

Assist in ensuring that the governance framework and related activities comply with applicable regulations and internal policies, especially regarding financial crimes such as AML, KYC, and sanctions.

Stakeholder Coordination :

Work with internal teams (Compliance, Risk, Operations) to coordinate governance-related activities. Help prepare presentations and reports for senior stakeholders, including updates on program status, key risks, and control issues.

Process Improvement :

Identify areas for improvement within existing governance processes and suggest practical, data-driven solutions. Assist in driving enhancements to governance tools, templates, and reporting mechanisms.

Training & Awareness :

Help develop materials and assist in conducting training sessions to increase awareness of governance principles and best practices across the financial crimes risk team.

Ad-hoc Support :

Provide ad-hoc administrative and analytical support for governance-related projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader program objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CAMS, CFE) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial crimes risk, governance, compliance, or related areas within financial services.
  • Basic understanding of financial crime regulations (AML, KYC, and sanctions) and risk management principles.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to use data visualization tools.
  • Experience with risk governance frameworks and financial crime controls is a plus but not required.
  • Collaborative team player, with a proactive mindset and strong willingness to learn.

Expected base pay rates for the Associate role will be between $100,000 and $140,000 per year at the commencement of employment.

However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
