Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a critical member of the executive management team. In collaboration with the CEO, the COO will articulate and implement the strategic vision and leadership of the CEO;
- oversee all operational efficiencies related to Real Estate, Housing Counseling and Lending, IT, and Administration; evaluate the effectiveness of internal processes to provide ongoing feedback;
help to promote and provide mentoring, guidance, supervision, and professional development to all leadership staff; and enhance the structure of the organization.
The Chief Operating Officer or COO is expected to oversee our organization’s ongoing operations and procedures.
The COO role is a key member of the senior management team, reporting only to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The COO is to maintain control of diverse business operations and is expected to be an experienced and efficient leader.
The COO must also have excellent people skills, business acumen and exemplary work ethics.
The goal of the COO position is to secure the functionality of business to drive extensive and sustainable growth.
Leadership, Staff Management and Organizational Strategy
- In coordination with the Chief Executive Officer and executive team, play a key role in the overall development, strategic planning, service delivery, and management of the organization across multiple sites and departments.
- Deploy resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, working with staff to balance workload and effort, and provide regular feedback so that key staff can continuously improve their supervision and mentoring skills.
- Create and support a high performing culture in the program department aligned with LSSSC core values : Compassion, Advocacy, Respect, Collaboration, Innovation, Stewardship.
- Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility.
Program Oversight and Evaluation
- Coordinate and analyze the appropriate data to inform the programmatic and operational decision-making process. Use the existing Salesforce CRM platform to increase LSSSC’s efficiency, transparency and collaborative efforts among teams.
- Passion for LSSSC's mission and purpose and an ability to communicate this passion to others.
- Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a multi-site structure to include professional development and mentorship.
- Expertise in one or more of the following service areas : education, youth development, workforce development, employment, or adult education.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile complex data for planning and reporting purposes.
Financial Acumen :
- Exceptional understanding of financial processes, including P&L management, cash flow forecasting, and investment analysis.
- Strong ability to interpret financial data to make sound business decisions.
Financial Management :
- Collaborate closely with the CFO to monitor financial performance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Analyze financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to inform strategic decision-making and optimize cost management.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and governance policies while maintaining organizational financial health.
Financial Reporting :
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for internal stakeholders and board members.
- Prepare operational budgets and financial forecasts; oversee monthly financial reporting, including P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow analysis.
Qualifications :
- A minimum of eight years leadership experience in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropy, overseeing multiple programs or contracts ideally at an organization serving vulnerable communities.
- Passion for LSSSC's mission and purpose and an ability to communicate this passion to others.
- Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a multi-site structure to include professional development and mentorship.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of program planning, organizational structure, budgeting, administrative operations, and fundraising.
- Expertise in one or more of the following service areas : education, youth development, workforce development, employment, or adult education.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and compile complex data for planning and reporting purposes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.
- Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground, build consensus and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
- Strong community awareness and astuteness.
- Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, outcomes-driven and entrepreneurial environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness and empowerment.
- Proven experience as Chief Operating Officer or relevant role.
- Understanding of business functions such as HR, Finance.
- Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development.
- Experience in fundraising will be a plus.
- Working knowledge of data analysis and performance / operation metrics.
- Working knowledge of IT / Business infrastructure and MS Office.
- Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Proven experience as COO, CFO, or other relevant roles with strong operational and financial oversight.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate financial management, including financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Experience in strategic planning, project management, and driving operational efficiencies.
- Experience in a nonprofit or public sector setting is a plus.
Educational Requirements : Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and / or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
