Traffic Signal Technician
Under supervision, participate in the development and implementation of goals and objectives; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.

TASKS
QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level II Technician certificate and Work Zone Safety certificate AND five (5) years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing streetlights and traffic systems. An IMSA Level III Certification is highly desired by the end of the probationary period. Must possess at the time of application and maintain a valid Class B California Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledgeable of traffic signal & street lighting maintenance and repair techniques, budgeting and purchasing procedures, of industry-related computer hardware and software;
Skilled in supervising, delegating, and evaluating work, prioritizing and scheduling work activities, providing and following oral and written instructions, and establishing and maintaining productive working relationships
Ability to perform essential duties with expertise and professionalism, and to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English
Proficient in the use of a personal computer, including industry-related software and other electronic devices, to perform essential job functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work may require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Incumbents may be exposed to repetitive motion, vision to monitor, extreme weather, moving traffic, and high voltage.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process. The examination may consist of one or more of the following : (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.

SALARY INCREASES : Professional employees are granted a 5% automatic step increase each year on their anniversary for the first two years of employment up to the maximum salary range for this job classification. Thereafter, salary increases are granted with a recommendation from the employee's department head and City Manager up to the maximum salary range for the job classification.
RETIREMENT (CalPERS) : The City provides retirement coverage through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). "New" CalPERS members a 2% @ 62 retirement formula with CalPERS. "Classic" CalPERS members' retirement formula is 2.5% at 55. The City does not participate in Social Security Retirement, only Medicare.
HEALTH COVERAGE : Insurance benefits begin on the first of the month following the date of hire. The City contracts with CalPERS for health insurance coverage and offers two dental plans and one vision plan with family coverage. The City pays ninety-five (95%) percent of the total monthly medical insurance premiums based on the Kaiser HMO plan; other plans are available at an additional cost.
HOLIDAYS : 14 paid holidays annually, 13 scheduled holidays, and one floating holiday.
VACATION - SICK LEAVE : Sick leave is accrued at a rate equivalent to nine (9) hours per month with unlimited accumulation. Employees can accrue up to 160 hours of vacation leave annually with unlimited accumulation.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE : The City provides 72 hours per fiscal year to full-time permanent management-professional employees after a successful probationary period is completed.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT : The City provides $2,000 per fiscal year for tuition costs and required books for job-related coursework after completing the probationary period and one year of service within the bargaining unit.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALLOWANCE : The City provides a $1000 per fiscal year allowance for professional development after successfully completing the probationary period.
