Catastrophe Modeler - Ceded Reinsurance

The Catastrophe (Cat) Modeler in the Ceded Reinsurance Department is responsible for supporting the development, analysis, and management of catastrophe models to aid the company's reinsurance strategy.

This role involves evaluating risk exposure, assisting in optimizing reinsurance purchases, and providing valuable insights to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a few years of experience in catastrophe modeling, strong analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate findings.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in catastrophe modeling, reinsurance, or related financial services industry.
  • Experience with catastrophe modeling software (e.g., AIR, RMS) and strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in statistical software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Primary Job Functions :

  • Catastrophe Modeling :
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of catastrophe models to evaluate risk exposure.
  • Analyze catastrophe model outputs to support the assessment of potential impacts on the reinsurance portfolio.
  • Utilize modeling software (e.g., AIR, RMS) to conduct risk assessments and scenario analyses.
  • Reinsurance Support :
  • Collaborate with underwriters and actuaries to assist in assessing reinsurance needs.
  • Provide data and analytical support to optimize reinsurance purchases and structures.
  • Support the reinsurance renewal process with detailed catastrophe risk analysis.
  • Risk Assessment & Management :
  • Conduct basic analysis of natural and man-made catastrophe risks.
  • Assist in evaluating the financial impact of different reinsurance treaties and structures.
  • Support the development and implementation of risk management frameworks and policies.
  • Collaboration & Communication :
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including underwriting, actuarial, finance, and claims departments.
  • Communicate analytical findings and recommendations to senior analysts and management.
  • Prepare and present reports and findings to various internal teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance :
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to catastrophe modeling and reinsurance.
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings and documentation.
