Hours : 8 : 00 - 5 : 00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
The Environmental Health Program Specialist for Food and Lodging promotes public health through education, surveillance, and consultation of state environmental health laws and regulations which are mandated for the county to perform.
This is accomplished through educating the general public and enforcing health laws, rules, and policies. The EH Program Specialist evaluates environmental health conditions through observation, inspection, and grading of facilities.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Inspection of food, lodging and institution facilities
- Permitting of establishments
- Complaint investigation
- Act as Food and Lodging lead team member
- Plan review for FLI
- Education / Experience : Graduation from a four-year college or university with 30 semester hours of course work in the physical, biological, life, health, or natural sciences and two years of experience in environmental health;
or a master's degree in environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health curricula of the National Environmental Health Association and one year of experience in environmental health.
License : Must maintain registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist by the North Carolina Board of Registered Environmental Health Examiners.
Must maintain a valid N.C. driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Must be able to gather, consolidate, analyze and evaluate facts to arrive at conclusions and develop recommended actions
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing the policies and regulations dealing with environmental protection
- Accurately write investigative or narrative reports
- Ability to maintain and use files and public records
