Overview
RTI International’s (CWR), has an immediate opportunity for a Water Resources Engineer with a focus on hydraulics and downstream consequences modeling.
The center provides hydrologic and hydraulic modeling services, develops decision support applications, designs data management and analysis systems, and provides environmental engineering support to government agencies, private companies, and international clients.
RTI executes many dam safety related projects in the US, as well as international development projects, particularly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
CWR is looking for an engineer to provide leadership in work related to dam safety . Candidates should be excellent critical thinkers with project management experience and have good personal skills, while maintaining an interest in implementing complex hydrologic, hydraulic and life safety models to support dam safety risk studies.
Candidates with interest, relevant experience, are encouraged to apply.
This position can be based in any of RTI’s offices in Research Triangle Park, NC; Fort Collins, CO; Waltham, MA; Atlanta, GA;
or Washington, DC; or telework is an option.
Responsibilities
- Development of hydrologic, hydraulic and consequences models.
- Development of Emergency Action Plans and supporting maps.
- Development of routines for pre-processing datasets.
- Internal review of models and technical reports.
- Mentoring and training junior staff members.
- Writing technical procedure documents, project reports.
- Project management and client support.
- Proposal development support.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis in Water Resources preferred and at least 8 years of relatable experience;
- M.S. in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis in Water Resources preferred and at least 6 years of related experience;
or a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis in Water Resources preferred and at least 1 year of related experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of hydrology and hydraulics (HEC-RAS) in large, complex watersheds including riverine systems controlled under multiple, competing objectives.
- Proven record of supporting client objectives and working efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience developing and applying hydrologic, hydraulic, consequences , and reservoir operations models (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-ResSim, HEC-LifeSim).
Preferred Qualification
- Acting as a model development lead resulting in excellent work product.
- Troubleshooting and developing solutions related to data limitations and complex modeling scenarios that may involve interaction between hydrologic, hydraulic and reservoir models.
- Development and calibration of large regional hydrologic and HEC-RAS models with ability to properly place hydraulic model geometry components in complex terrain.
- Understanding of flood routing dynamics for large flood events and dam breach scenarios including dynamic reservoir routing.
- Reservoir modeling including developing operational rules and outlet rating curves for large dams.
- Dam Safety Risk Assessment Support.
- Scripting experience to support GIS and modeling initiatives is a plus.
