This position is eligible for medical, dental and vision insurance coverage on the employee, spouse, and eligible dependents.

Retirement :

As a contract teacher, this position will automatically be enrolled in the Teacher Retirement Fund (TRF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA).

In addition, this position is eligible to enroll in a (a) retirement investment plan, a (b) Match Program, and a tax-free post-retirement medical expense account (VEBA).

Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use our Health & Wellness Centers conveniently located within the community.

These are no-cost health clinics that provide primary care treatment, generic prescription medications (at no cost), physicals, health screenings, and labs.

Accumulated sick leave days and personal business days will be provided under this position as well. Additionally, EVSC employees have access to EVSC Wee Care, our employee-only early learning centers.

Wee Care provides a quality early learning experience for children as young as six weeks through age five. POSITION OVERVIEW The special education teacher is responsible for planning and implementing goals of the students Individual Education Program (IEP).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.

  • Follows legal requirements as dictated by state and federal statutes.
  • Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
  • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
  • Evaluates and monitors student progress.
  • Maintains physical environment of the classroom.
  • Prepares report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other forms.
  • Maintains communication system with parents / care givers of classroom students.
  • Plans individual educational programs designed to meet student’s needs and conform to state and federal laws.
  • Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of specific objectives to meet the needs of each individual student.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • The ability to interact with public and other staff is required.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Supervises students and special education assistants for instruction purposes.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

Valid teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and / or the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply financial concepts and statistical inferences.

REASONING ABILITY :

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to use available information and develop long-term and short-term goals and objectives.
