Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary :

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service. This role requires a strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Pharmacy Technician ensures that prescriptions are filled accurately and safely while adhering to all legal and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities :

l . Prescription Processing :

o Receive and accurately interpret prescription orders from healthcare providers. o Enter prescription information into the pharmacy management system.

o Prepare and label medications for dispensing, including counting, measuring, and mixing ingredients.

2. Customer Service :

o Assist customers in person and over the phone with questions regarding their medications.

o Provide information on prescription status, drug interactions, and possible side effects under the supervision of a pharmacist.

o Handle customer concerns and direct complex questions to the pharmacist.

3. Medication Inventory Management :

o Monitor and maintain inventory levels of medications and supplies. o Assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceutical products.

o Check for expired medications and ensure proper disposal according to regulations.

4. Regulatory Compliance :

o Adhere to federal and state pharmacy laws, regulations, and guidelines. o Ensure accurate record-keeping of prescription and patient information.

o Support the pharmacist in maintaining compliance with health and safety standards.

5. Operational Support :

o Operate pharmacy equipment, such as pill counters and automated dispensing systems.

o Prepare insurance claims and assist in resolving billing issues.

o Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.

Qualifications :

o Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.

o Certification : Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or similar accrediting body may be required depending on the state.

o Experience : Prior experience as a pharmacy technician or in a similar healthcare setting is preferred but not required.

o Skills :

o Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. o Basic math and computer proficiency.

o Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Working Conditions :

o The role may require standing for extended periods.

o Availability for various shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, depending on pharmacy hours.

o May involve handling hazardous substances or materials.
