In 1879, Father Bernard Donnelly established Mount St. Bernard’s Orphanage in Kansas City. With that one act of faith, hope and charity, many lives and a community were transformed.
And, from that humble beginning a strong tradition of compassionate care and social service took root, thrived, and grew to become Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St.
Joseph. Catholic Charities empowers at risk people to create a pathway out of poverty by alleviating their immediate crises to create stability;
then providing robust support to lift them to dignity and self-reliance.
Today, millions of lives have been transformed, in the communities we serve . We have office locations in the Kansas City metro-area, St.
Joseph, Missouri, a Food Pantry in Kansas City and another in Cameron, Missouri, while serving a 27-county region.

Position Objective
In this part time position, working up to 24 hours a week, you will seek to assist families wanting to adopt a child through Catholic Charities.
Primary services include conducting orientations, completing home studies, attending court hearings, facilitating reunions and processing correspondence.
Social worker services include maintaining an average caseload of 10-12 families. The direct services required include the following :
Responsibilities
- Handle all adoption inquiry calls and emails.
- Communicate monthly with all enrolled adoptive couples.
- Facilitate on-going trainings for adoptive couples, and community resources.
- Conduct adoption orientations to all new adoptive couples.
- Process background checks
- Facilitate home studies and home study updates.
- Facilitate post-placement services.
- Attend court and participate in legal process.
- Manage correspondence with current and past adoption triad members, including conducting non-identifying searches.
- Properly document services in accordance with state laws and agency requirements
- Adhere to regulations and policies outlined by the State of Missouri and the agency.
- Adhere to HIPAA requirements in regard to handling of client protected health information.
- Adhere to all Council on Accreditation standards and Performance Quality Improvement requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements : Qualifications
Qualifications
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a closely related human service field from an accredited agency or program.
- Adoption experience preferred.
Minimum Travel Requirements
Throughout the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, plus Jefferson City and Springfield.
