US BBU Commercial Learning, a function of the Innovation and Business Excellence (IBEX) team, is dedicated to developing and delivering innovative, accessible and tailored learning solutions to empower individuals and teams to drive growth and elevate capability as AstraZeneca leads the way in advancing healthcare solutions for patients.

Our enterprise team owns the lifecycle of training for our US BBU commercial teams from onboarding to ongoing capability development in disease, product, selling and business acumen.

Job Summary : We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Associate Director, Medical Science Learning to join our dynamic Commercial Learning team.

We are seeking a strategic and experienced individual to lead the development and execution of learning and development initiatives within the US BBU Commercial organization for our medical and sales field teams.

The Associate Director, Medical Science Learning will play a pivotal role in designing and managing educational programs that enhance the scientific and clinical knowledge of our internal teams and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in medical science with a strong background in learning and development to drive impactful training solutions.

As Associate Director, Medical Science Learning, you will be responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programs for onboarding and ongoing capability development of the medical knowledge and skills required of our medical sales liaisons and sales teams.

Your expertise will help ensure that our teams are well-equipped to communicate the scientific and clinical benefits of our products effectively.

This position will report to the Director of CVRM Clinical and Sales Learning.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Learning Strategy Development : Develop and implement a comprehensive learning strategy that aligns with organizational goals, enhances scientific knowledge, and supports the scientific acumen of medical science liaisons and our sales teams.
  • Program Design and Management : Create, manage, and continuously improve learning programs, including workshops, seminars, e-learning courses, and certification programs, ensuring content is relevant, accurate, and up to date with the latest scientific advancements and regulatory guidelines.
  • Training Development : Design, develop, and implement training programs for internal teams, including sales representatives, medical affairs personnel, and leadership, as well as external stakeholders, such as healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
  • Training Delivery & Facilitation : Lead engaging training sessions, workshops, and seminars, utilizing various instructional methods and technologies to cater to different learning styles and needs.
  • Needs Assessment : Collaborate with various departments to assess training needs and identify knowledge gaps, using feedback and performance metrics to continuously improve training programs.

Conduct regular assessments to identify learning needs and knowledge gaps among various teams and stakeholders. Use data and feedback to tailor programs and measure their effectiveness.

  • Compliance and Regulations : Ensure all learning activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Evaluation and Reporting : Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs through assessments, surveys, and performance metrics.

Provide regular reports and recommendations for improvements to senior management.

  • Expertise Sharing : Serve as a subject matter expert on therapeutic areas and product knowledge, providing support and guidance to teams and addressing any medical or scientific inquiries.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration : Partner with cross-functional teams, including Medical Affairs and Marketing teams, to ensure learning initiatives are aligned with strategic priorities and support product and therapeutic area goals.
  • Innovation : Stay abreast of emerging trends in medical science education and learning technologies. Incorporate innovative approaches to enhance the effectiveness and reach of learning programs.

Essential Skills / Experience :

  • Advanced degree in life sciences (Ph.D., M.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent) preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical science, clinical research, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a training or educational role within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical science, clinical trials, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies is a plus.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information in a clear and engaging manner.

Proficient in using training software and tools, and comfortable with both in-person and virtual training environments.

Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
