What do we need :

The Director of Early Childhood Education leads People Serving People's Education Department, bridges the department's programs, advances program transformation, promotes operational excellence, and improves upon all programs and services in accordance with People Serving People's mission, vision, and values.

The Director is an entrepreneurial and community leader with strong ties to the field of Early Childhood Education and a desire to advance equity and promote systems change.

They contribute vision, inform strategy, and lead planning and implementation of programming that is culturally and trauma responsive, family centered, strengths based, and informed by a deep understanding of historical trauma as it relates to African American, American Indian, and Latin American communities.

The Director of Early Childhood Education represents People Serving People in a variety of collaboratives and coalitions to advance the field of early education for children experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for People Serving People's Education Department and all Early Childhood Education programs provided to People Serving families, including seven licensed classrooms and a shelter-based K12 program.
  • Supervises, coaches, and develops the Early Childhood Development Program Manager and the Center of Excellence Preschool and Learning Center Manager.
  • Partners with managers to ensure that People Serving People's licensed programs remain in full compliance with licensing and accreditation authorities.
  • Bridges People Serving People's Early Childhood Education programs and promotes integration, transformation, and excellence across programs and sites.

Demonstrates presence at all Early Childhood Education sites and steps in to help in the classroom when needed.

Continuously analyzes program performance and seeks opportunities and implements solutions to strengthen instruction, curriculum fidelity, trauma-responsiveness, and cultural relevance.

Models trauma responsive and culturally relevant practices and works collaboratively with staff and leadership to implement them at all levels of the Education Department.

  • Partners with managers to create and successfully implement annual workplans to aid program transformation and continuous improvement.
  • Invests in staff professional and leadership development directly and indirectly across the department, including training, coaching, staff development.
  • Supports staff through individual and group meetings to analyze specific educational programs and drive educational program development and continuous improvement.
  • Leads managers in preparing and managing their budgets.
  • Partners with managers and other departments to raise awareness of People Serving People's education programs, notify prospective families of enrollment opportunities, and maintain a sustainable enrollment across all programs.
  • Prospects for state, local, and other governmental funding opportunities, maximizes revenue capture, and completes required funding paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Works directly with the Development Department to align education program development with funding development and provides accurate program information for grant submissions.
  • Continually researches and shares learnings about culturally relevant, local and national sector trends, systems and policies around Early Childhood Education and Parent Engagement.
  • Stays current on Early Childhood Assistance Programs at a policy, state and county, and programmatic level including CCAP, Pathway I, and Pathway II Scholarships and consistently seeks ways to increase revenue and improve access to early education and education systems.
  • Represents People Serving People as a public face for the organization's Educational Services work which includes participation in presentations and / or presenting on areas of expertise and the program, participating on panels, intentional networking and relationship building with organizations and practitioners in the field, and participating on related working groups, committees, and / or boards outside of the organization.
  • Participates in public policy and systems change issue identification and engages in coalitions and other spaces to advance policy around early education and access for families experiencing homelessness.
  • Represents People Serving People as a public face for the organization's Educational Services work which includes presenting on areas of expertise and the program, participating on panels, intentional networking and relationship building with organizations and practitioners in the field, and participating on related working groups, committees, and / or boards outside of the organization.
  • Develops and maintains (both directly and indirectly) partnerships with community leaders, community organizations, governmental agencies and others that can provide support to or enhance People Serving People's educational programming efforts.
  • Serves as a member of People Serving People's Senior Leadership Team and participates in Board of Directors meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

Requirements : Computer Skills :

Computer Skills :

  • High competence with Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Experience using childcare management software required.
  • Experience using web portals for compliance, procurement and other needs required.
  • Brightwheel and Salesforce experience desired but not required.

Other Qualifications :

  • 5 years' management experience serving socio-culturally diverse populations in Early Childhood Education.
  • 5 years' experience with childcare licensing and inspections, accreditation, and reporting.
  • Experience managing eight or more classrooms across multiple sites highly desired.
  • Experience managing school age programming highly desired.
  • Experience identifying, implementing, and ensuring fidelity to Early Childhood Education curricula.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles and the impact of trauma on children who have experienced poverty and homelessness or are highly mobile.
  • Experience developing and executing budgets and long-range plans.
  • Familiarity with grants and experience seeking and using grants to fund priorities.
  • Experience harvesting, evaluating, and implementing best practices within / across programs.
  • Project management experience. Project management certification is highly desired but not essential.
  • Able to complete Adult & Pediatric First Aid / CPR / AED training within 90 days and maintain it thereafter.
  • Able to pass a DHS background check
  • Able to pass a motor vehicle records check and maintain a driver's license.
  • Able to complete overdose response training within one year.
  • Must be able to work after-hours when required to oversee response to emergencies.
  • Willing to center client needs when making operational decisions.
  • Familiar with the historical and present-day consequences of systemic racism and willing to apply an equity lens in decision-making.
  • Training, public speaking, and / or facilitation experience and tools are highly desired.
  • Public policy or systems change experience, orientation, or interest.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Experience leading and / or managing change, particularly in direct service settings.
