Rod & Associates Accounting Manager Role
Job Description : We are seeking multiple experienced and detail-oriented Part-Time Accounting Managers (or senior accountant candidates looking for leadership roles) to oversee and manage staff accountants.
This fully remote, part-time role is ideal for a CPA with a background in BlackLine software, audit and assurance, reconciliations, footnotes, checks, balances, and controls with a solid understanding of both GAAP and Tax reporting.
Due to the consistent nature of this role and our contractual obligations, reliability and dependability are essential, as this role involves reviewing and approving the work of staff accountants periodically (usually weekly).
Please note, this position will not involve auditing but will focus on ensuring accuracy and compliance before client approval of the work completed by accountants.
Candidates must ensure there are no conflicts of interest, non-competes, or other employment restrictions that would prevent them from fulfilling this role.
All management, including this role, will be featured on our company directory / website.
Corporate Services Overview :
Rod & Associates' Corporate Services division offers accounting services to larger clients, providing part-time or full-time accountants to manage their accounting needs.
The Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in this setup, acting as a liaison between the client and the accountant. This role ensures that contractual obligations are met and includes periodic (usually weekly) reviews of the accountant's work for an additional layer of assurance.
Work Schedule :
Work hours will be consistent after the initial onboarding of new clients. However, during the first month of the contract, the manager will need to be available for around 5-10 hours per week as we tailor our processes, tasks, and workflows in BlackLine to suit the new client.
We offer flexibility, so weekend work and after-hours work are acceptable. After the initial month, the workload will decrease to 2-3 hours per week once all workflows in BlackLine, along with internal checks, forms, and tie-outs, are automated.
Responsibilities :
- Manage and review the work of staff accountants, ensuring accuracy and compliance with AICPA standards. Conduct periodic (usually weekly) reviews of their work to provide an additional layer of assurance.
- Act as a liaison between the client and the accountant, ensuring contractual obligations are met and maintaining open communication through scheduled virtual meetings.
- Develop and implement reconciliations, footnotes, checks, balances, and controls to ensure the accuracy and compliance of accountants' work with contractual requirements.
- Schedule monthly virtual meetings to ensure open communication and address any areas of concern with clients, ensuring client satisfaction.
- Document all issues and resolutions with clients.
- Assist with creating standardized forms, reconciliations, and tie-outs to automate weekly reviews.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Be tactful but firm with external clients, ensuring that services are provided strictly in accordance with the contract.
Additional services outside of the scope of the engagement will require a separate engagement.
- Ensure that all proprietary work products, such as workpapers, formulas, models, etc., are appropriately protected and never shared with outside parties without the CEO’s / Legal approval.
- Report directly to the CEO with minimal supervision.
- Assist with other ad-hoc projects as needed.
Requirements :
- Experience in managing and reviewing the work of senior accountants.
- At least 4 years of experience in accounting.
- At least 1 year of experience supervising accountants.
- Must have an active CPA license and be up-to-date with CPE requirements. All states will be considered.
- Proactive and not reactive approach to tasks and responsibilities.
- BlackLine knowledge required.
- Real estate experience, specifically with developers and homebuilders, but other industries are welcomed too.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Prior Big 4 Firm or Consulting experience.
- Audit background is a major plus to ensure different tests or reviews are performed for accuracy.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, detail, and process-oriented.
- Customer service-oriented with great leadership qualities to mentor junior staff.
- Experience in automating and tracking all clients’ progress from start to finish.
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., INDEX MATCH / XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, nested IF statements, pivot tables).
- Knowledge of multiple accounting management software.
Compensation :
- Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and qualifications (based out of Atlanta, GA).
- Additional performance-based compensation in the forms of annual bonuses / raises. These are based on individual performance and are awarded at the discretion of the Company.
- Compensation may depend on how closely candidates meet all qualifications and experience requirements.
Additional Information :
The CEO maintains an open line of communication and is always available to assist, ensuring support and guidance whenever needed.
He promotes a collaborative leadership style among management to foster a supportive and cohesive work environment.
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Rod & Associates does not sponsor employment visas at this time.
