DescriptionI. Position Function SummaryUnder the direction of the Chief Clinical Officer, RN, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible to La Familia Medical Center (LFMC) clients for providing nursing care in assigned areas in terms of individualized client needs and in conformance with recognized techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of nursing.
- II. Essential Responsibilities* Utilizes the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, as evidenced by client / staff observation;
- Assesses the patient, collects and documents the patient's current health status and medical history. Completes and / or reviews Admission Data Record as defined by policy.
Makes accurate and ongoing assessment of patient's status and responds appropriately;* Plans an implements treatment, setting priorities for nursing action in a logical sequence according to patient's needs and formulates a plan of care by the appropriate selection of Nurse Practice Standards.
- The plan of care is initiated on patient admission based on all aspects of the initial assessment. Plan includes physiological, psychosocial, and environmental factors, patient / significant other education and patient discharge planning;
- Evaluates patient needs by performing ongoing assessment and revises plan of care based on new data and patient's condition;
- Documents accurate and ongoing assessment of patient status. Documents patient care, which reflects nursing interventions, patient response to care provided, patient needs, problems, capabilities, limitations, and progress toward goals.
- Documentation includes evidence of appropriate patient, family and significant other teaching, and the understanding of these instructions is noted in the medical record;
- Communicates with the physician regarding patient needs, the nursing assessments, and recommendations on a daily basis, and as needed, as evidenced by client feedback and Nursing director observation;
- Performs direct patient care, utilizing established procedures, policies, and standards as evidenced by client / staff feedback and Director of Nursing observation : * Administers medications according to policy and procedure;
- Administers IV's according to policy and procedure;* Observes and documents patient's response to pertinent medications;
- Demonstrates ability and appropriate technical skills when administering treatments and procedures in accordance with physician's orders and policy and procedure (done within a timely manner);
- Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to policy and procedure, and division / unit specific competencies;
- Demonstrates ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner;* Provides personal patient care to provide comfort and well-being to the patient, acknowledging physiological and psychological needs;
- Provides support in the overall LFMC operation by acknowledging, adhering to, and implementing overall organizational and medical policies and operating procedures of LFMC;
- Educates patients by dissemination of patient information and literature relating to health education programs including but not limited to family planning, pre-natal care, and health promotion / disease prevention for all age categories;
- Maintains staff development by assisting the Nursing Director in the orientation and preceptorship of nursing personnel with regard to organizational and medical operating procedures, and by assisting the Nursing Supervisor in monitoring nursing and laboratory areas;
- Maintains compliance of clinic with state licensure by enforcing Quality Assurance protocols in the pharmacy, laboratory, medical supply, and nursing / patient care areas of LFMC for quality patient care;
- Assists Nursing director and performs clinical case management by contacting, teaching, and following protocol on patients with abnormal laboratory results;
- Maintains and updates professional knowledge and skills, and maintains clinical proficiency by attending continuing education or seminars related to job responsibilities, including Age Specific Training (care giving, treatment, and assessments specific to the age of populations served);
- Charge Nurse Duties (Assumed on temporary basis when assigned by Chief Clinical Officer)* Assures that all positions are covered, such as telephones, patient flow, providers, laboratory, etc;
- Responds to emergency situations pertaining to patients, visitors, or building;* Handles patient complaints and / or questions in clinical areas;
- Coordinates with medical records staff to ensure that the medical records flow and assignments are being completed in a timely manner;
- Works with the laboratory staff to ensure that the lab workflow and assignments are being completed in a timely manner;
- Approves supplies needed to maintain stock for patient care purposes;* Trains incoming staff.RequirementsIV. Education, Experience and Skills / Training* Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from an accredited Registered Nurse program and state licensure, and CPR certification is required.
