Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in our 21-bed Level IIIB Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
Under the general guidance of the Medical Director of the Newborn ICU and in accordance with the state Board of Registration in Nursing, the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written and established guidelines of the NBICU.
This is a half-time ( FTE) position with a rotating schedule that can include 8 / 12 / 24-hour shifts, approximately every 3rd weekend, and some holidays.
NNPs working at least FTE have access to full medical / dental coverage, as well as many additional benefits including generous paid time off & yearly funds for CME and business expenses (some benefits prorated for this FTE level).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts neonatal physical exams and ongoing assessments. Informs the responsible neonatologist of pertinent subjective and objective data and routine diagnostic and therapeutic measures initiated.
- Obtains and evaluates maternal medical and obstetrical history.
- Resuscitates and stabilizes neonates.
- Collaborates with clinical team to determine appropriate differential diagnosis based on history and physical exam.
- Records accurate and timely documentation of observations, interventions, plan of care, referrals and related follow-up.
- Prescribes and administers approved drugs as outlined by current policy and protocol.
- Orders, conducts, and interprets standard diagnostic tests and appropriate therapeutic treatments as part of the medical plan of care.
Consults with on-call neonatologist as appropriate
- Performs necessary technical procedures in accordance with approved protocols and as credentialed by the Office of the Medical Staff.
- Participates in performance improvement programs.
- Serves as a clinical resource and provides education to nursing staff.
- Evaluates patients in regards to discharge or admission in order to improve the flow of patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications :
- Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program
- Possession of a valid license to practice (or eligibility) as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota
- Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner by the National Certification Corporation
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification
