El Futuro is currently hiring a full-time, 30 hours per week, Bilingual Psychiatry Assistant in Durham to provide support and assistance to the psychiatry staff and to clinical programs to enhance provision of care and maximize the efforts of the psychiatric providers.
We are seeking someone with experience as a Medical Assistant, who has excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and who is committed to working with the Latine community in North Carolina.
This position works 30 hours per week, primarily in-person, in the Durham Clinic and must be available for Friday morning meetings, 9 : 00-11 : 00am.
The pay rate is $22.00 per hour. El Futuro provides employer paid medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability;

Typical Schedule, may change as clinic needs arise :
- Monday 1 : 00pm - 3 : 00pm (in-person or virtual)
- Tuesday - 10 : 00am - 6 : 00 pm (in-person)
- Wednesday - 10 : 00am - 6 : 00 pm (in-person)
- Thursday - 10 : 00am - 6 : 00 pm (in-person)
- Friday - 9 : 00am - 2 : 30pm (in-person or virtual)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Psychiatry Assistant performs a wide range of functions including, but not limited to the following :
- Provide support to Psychiatrists :
- Coordinate lab orders
- Assist patients to connect to other organizations or providers when referred by the psychiatrist
- Communicate with schools and primary care providers
- Work collaboratively with Case Managers at El Futuro to find other resources for patients
- Review phone messages and texts left by patients for psychiatrists and communicate with patients to clarify questions and generally assist with requests and issues that do not need the psychiatrist’s direct involvement.
- Provide support to psychiatrists during clinic, including assistance with vitals and performing injections.
- Maintain the list of patients who have not been seen and complete the discharge process in the medical record
- Obtain release of information forms from patients, when indicated
- Draft form letters such as school / work excuses and therapeutic animal requests.
- Communicate with IT support as issues arise to help facilitate workflow for the psychiatrist
- Work with patients to enroll in medication assistance programs such as GoodRx, NeedyMeds, and company programs that provide medications for free.
- Assist with entering information into the electronic medical record.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and assignments related to psychiatry program.
General Responsibilities for El Futuro Staff :
- Participate in meetings and organizational related activities as directed by the supervisor, which may include All Staff Meeting, Individual Supervision, participation on a committee, or other activities.
- Play an active role in the continued development of El Futuro’s work via participation in fundraising and other agency-wide activities.
- Engage in learning opportunities through La Mesita , El Futuro’s training platform and network of bilingual providers in North Carolina, or through other appropriate career development opportunities.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, or other related field.
- Required : Fluency in Spanish and English.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- High level of organization, prioritization, communication, and listening skills.
- Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability to meet the changing needs of clients and El Futuro.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems (El Futuro uses IMS).
- Commitment to the mission and values of El Futuro and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
