MP Materials is seeking someone with proven electronics and industrial equipment experience to fill the role of Product Engineering & Prototyping Technician.
This person will assist our team with establishing a one-of-a-kind magnet technology development facility with a pilot-scale manufacturing line and world-class analytical equipment.
This hands-on, detail-oriented person reports to the Manager Product Engineering & Prototyping. This is a not a desk job.
If you are someone who likes to tinker with electronics and get your hand dirty, you could be our new team member. The ideal candidate has experience working in a flexible research laboratory, is strongly mechanically inclined, can manage multiple tasks on a timeline, and is a natural tinkerer.
This position requires strong technical and communication skills to coordinate working with a variety of teammates, execute technical trials, and document processes and results.

Essential Duties :
- Install, commission and begin to operate pilot-scale materials processing industrial equipment safely.
- Develop documentation for process procedures.
- Learn to troubleshoot and improve equipment designs.
- Execute test plans to support both development and manufacturing priorities.
- Cross-train to run a variety of analytical equipment for metallography, magnetic measurement, and chemical measurement of rare earth magnets.
- Contribute new ideas and improvements.
Basic Qualifications :
- Minimum of Associate of Applied Science or equivalent in a technical field, prefer Electronics or Industrial Equipment related area.
- Experience installing and commissioning manufacturing and / or laboratory equipment.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Ability to conduct directed experiments, make detailed observations, and communicate observations to leaders and teammates.
- Ability to identify and solve problems, and effectively communicate possible solutions.
Desired Qualities :
- Experience working with researchers to build equipment for physical materials experiments.
- Experience working with metal powders.
- Knowledge of basic powder metallurgy processes and materials characterization equipment.
