Manages engineering and product design activities, contributes directly to the design of new products and revision of existing products.
Coordinates the interface with other departmental staff to insure the best utilization of company resources and meeting the diverse needs of the company.
- Participate in the original planning for new products with Product Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Marketing, Sales, and Engineering.
- Develop and assist in making plans to meet specific marketing and product performance objectives.
- Direct and contribute to the design, engineering and development of new products, and quality & / or cost improvements to current products.
- Provide professional design guidance and technical direction to engineering staff to ensure optimum product designs that meet performance criteria, control costs, and are completed to the approved project schedules.
- Evaluate and approve all engineering changes (engineering drawings, test plans, product scope documents, and new product development phase paperwork).
- Plan and control budget for strategic and capital engineering projects and departmental operations.
- Formulate and deliver annual performance appraisals for Product Design staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree and five (5) years experience with two (2) years of management experience. Knowledge of the new product development process and project management is required.
Masters in Engineering Management preferred.
Excellent planning, organization, leadership, presentation, decision-making, and analytical skills. Must have strong communications skills, verbal and written.
This includes basic knowledge using Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong team focus and ability to work with others, both internal and external to the organization.
Creativity and a propensity to change are also considered necessary traits for this position.
Physical Demand Requirements
Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms;
climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move objects up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Travel Requirements
10% (3 days per month)
