Position Description

The Texas Tech University Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy program is pleased to announce an opening for a nine-month, tenure-track, assistant / associate professor position.

The position will begin Fall, 2025.

About the Department / School / Area

Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences Department :

The mission of the Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences (CFAS) is to prepare future professionals to enrich the lives of others utilizing a systemic perspective.

To this end, the CFAS Department is home to programs specifically focused on empowering students to develop skills in counseling, addiction and recovery, licensed mental health practice, and applying a scientist-practitioner approach to producing meaningful scholarship.

The CFAS Department is home to highly regarded programs, including the Counseling and Addiction Recovery Sciences (CARS) undergraduate degree program, master's and doctoral degree programs in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy (CMFT), and a doctoral degree program in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Sciences (ADRS).

We seek to fulfill our mission through authentic connections with a diverse body of students, colleagues, and community partners.

Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy graduate programs :

Texas Tech University's CMFT Ph.D. program has been accredited by the COAMFTE since 1981 and the MS program has been accredited by the COAMFTE since 2019.

These programs have a reputation for emphasizing the scientist-practitioner model and are staffed by six full-time faculty members and a director of clinical training.

These programs serve approximately 30 doctoral students and 32 master's students. These programs are housed in the Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences and offer generous research seed grants and research start-up packages to new faculty.

Major / Essential Functions

Responsibilities :

The position entails the following : 1) serving as a faculty member in COAMFTE-accredited master's and doctoral programs in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy, 2) contributing to the profession through publication and presentation of scholarly work, 3) pursuing and securing extramural funding, 4) teaching graduate (M.

S. & Ph.D.) and undergraduate courses, 5) supervising couple, marriage, and family therapy practicum courses, 6) advising graduate students including thesis and dissertation committees, 7) other service duties including program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities.

Service to the department, college, and university is expected, and 8) maintaining clinical activity in accordance with COAMFTE guidelines.

Faculty Qualifications

The Texas Tech Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy Program is seeking experienced applicants for a tenure-track position.

Qualified applicants will demonstrate an established record of scholarly publication and presentation, the ability to secure an externally funded program of research, a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse populations, effectiveness as a teacher and supervisor, and a record of professional service.

All applicants will have an earned doctorate (by time of appointment) in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy or a closely related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply.

Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students, possession of Spanish speaking proficiency, as well as AAMFT Clinical Membership and Approved Supervisor designation, are all highly desirable.
