Department Summary
The Aerospace Engineering Department at SJSU offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science (BSAE) and a Master of Science (MSAE) in Aerospace Engineering.
Hands-on, project-based curricula and state-of-the-art pedagogy prepare our students for professional careers in aerospace engineering fields, such as aircraft and space systems research, design, development, testing, and integration.
The Department has approximately 480 undergraduate and 80 graduate students.
Students in the MSAE Program can specialize in sustainable aviation concepts, aerospace structural design, astrodynamics, space systems engineering, hypersonics or propulsion.
They have opportunities to work with AE faculty and NASA engineers to design, build, test, and launch microsatellites like the TechEdSat , participate in the design, building, and testing of our brand new hypersonic facility, learn how to use machine / deep learning for structural health monitoring, optimize spacecraft trajectories or explore the potential of electric and hybrid propulsion systems for general aviation, commuter, and large air transports.
In addition, students can participate in exciting extra-curricular projects, such as the Spaceport America Cup . MSAE students are encouraged to present their work in professional conferences such as the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics SciTech , the International Planetary Probe Workshop , and the International Symposium on Sustainable Aviation.

Brief Description of Duties
Lecturers are expected to teach their courses using student-centered pedagogies; collaborate with the Aerospace Engineering Assessment Coordinator to assess course and program learning outcomes, maintain office hours in accordance with University Policy, and cooperate with the Department to allow for regular peer-reviews of their teaching.
Lecturers are strongly encouraged to seek guidance from Department Chair for clarification of University policies and department practices with respect to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, etc.
Faculty are expected to organize their classes using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) , the official LMS provided for the SJSU community.
All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in the Canvas platform to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their classes.
You will have access to this system prior to the semester start date.
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
- Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.
e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field is required to teach lower division undergraduate courses.
- A Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field is required to teach upper division undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Knowledge of the subject matter in the area assigned for teaching demonstrated through relevant professional experience and / or a Ph.
D. or Sc.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field.
- Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Anticipated starting salary :
L-A / Range 2 - $5007 - $5675
L-B / Range 3 - $5925 - $7125
L-C / Range 4 - $6500 - $8982
L-D / Range 5 - $8184 - $9854
Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary rate x 12).
