Position Overview :

  • Ideal candidate will reside in AZ or CA
  • The Manager of State and Local Government Relations plays a key role in developing and implementing government relations strategies in the western region of the United States to achieve company objectives.

The individual develops, executes, and manages Verra Mobility’s relationships with key interest and support business groups at the state and local levels, including state legislators, governors, other internal executives, and industry associations and regulatory agencies on behalf of the Company.

The Manager is responsible for coordinating external lobbyist activities, engaging community grassroots organizations, and managing political contributions to align with the strategic objectives of the business.

The individual reports to the Vice President of Government Relations and works alongside a robust team of the government relations professionals to implement political and regulatory strategies that advance the goals and objectives of the Company in a constantly changing work environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Assist the Government Relations department with overall management of the government affairs activities of the Company, including development, communication and execution of legislative priorities and strategies.
  • Coordinates efforts of outside lobbyists and consultants to ensure objectives are met on time, on budget and with the appropriate level of quality and fastidiousness.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with grassroots community organizations and industry trade associations.
  • Identify, analyze, and communicate how potential changes in the legislative, regulatory, policy, and political environments (both near and long term) could affect day-to-day operational business activities and long-term strategy.
  • Operate at a high level of transparency and deliver on key performance indicators.
  • Identify and provide appropriate influence in the development of legislation and policies.
  • Partner with internal legal department on various matters including interpretation of existing and potential laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that the Company is compliant with all state and local registration and lobbying disclosure laws and associated interactions with elected government officials.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Verra Mobility’s business lines and the impact of legislation on the business to identify strategic opportunities and risks, and execute accordingly.
  • Monitor state and municipal legislative activity by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating legislation, enforcing adherence to strategic state political and regulatory requirements and advising business groups within the Company and executive management on necessary actions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on government / legislative matters in assigned region within the Company.

Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. Other advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Significant level of interpersonal and communication skills, and able to lead, communicate and persuade others, and interact effectively with others in difficult situations.
  • An energetic, very hands-on, self-motivated and self-managed person with a high degree of honesty, integrity and judgment.
  • Extremely good judgment and integrity; ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential matters.
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of government, legislative affairs, and / or campaign experience with advancing levels of responsibilities and duties.
  • Experience interacting with lobbyists and elected officials is required.
  • High-level ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • A thorough knowledge of public policy, political campaigns, public affairs and community outreach, as well extensive knowledge and experience in Government Relations, the legislative and regulatory process at the state and local levels.
  • Ability to develop and implement successful political strategies in the development and execution of Verra Mobility’s legislative agenda or programs in a complex political environment.
  • Ability to establish and work towards the bigger picture while still grasping the details.
  • Strong PC skills especially Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Outstanding English, writing, presentation, and public speaking and communication skills, including at the executive level.
  • Travel up to 50 percent.
