The Medical Assistant serves as the primary support to the psychiatric nurse practitioner and client’s therapeutic relationship.
MAs are responsible for managing NP orders, caseloads, and records in order to facilitate optimal patient care. The MA is often the first line contact for patient questions and concerns and is responsible for ensuring the quality of the patient experience meets CPR standards.

Knowledge and Skills :
Communication : It is essential that staff tasked with coordinating care with other agencies communicate in a professional manner, observing the highest phone and email etiquette standards.
Time management : Care coordinators must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and accomplish them in a timely manner.
Computer literacy : Care coordinators must be able to efficiently document their coordination efforts utilizing a variety of computer systems.
Duties :
Fill out lab requisitions as needed and send to medical records
Create cardiac clearance forms and send to medical records as ordered by PNP
Review and respond to all refill requests
Check faxes hourly and put paperwork in the correct NP’s box
Update pharmacies in Dr. First as needed
Inquire about new specialists or recent lab work and obtain ROI as appropriate
Request records from other providers as ordered by PNP
Complete daily flowsheet for PNPs
Obtain patient lab results and pertinent records from HIE
Maintain plastic routing sheets for PNP team
Opening and closing duties as assigned
Check voicemails hourly and return calls to patients or forward to appropriate PNP / department
Take patient calls as requested by client engagement team
Complete vital signs on all in office patients
Complete Pharmacogenetic tests and call Fedex to pick up tests
Follow up on lab results advise patients / call lab as needed / fax results to PCP
Complete Prior Authorizations as needed
Assist with applications for patient assistance programs
Set up doc to doc calls as needed for PNP
Administer drug screens as ordered by the PNP
Administer injections as ordered by the PNP
Log medications and samples in and out
Provide samples to patients as ordered by PNP and document in patient’s chart accordingly
Contact patients to cancel and reschedule any office cancel appointments
Check and log medication refrigerator temperatures daily
Assist PNP and CET with filling PNP schedule
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements :
Medical Assistant Certificate preferred. Nurse Tech accepted.
Certifications must be from a program that was fully accredited during the entire time of the individual’s attendance or applicable training otherwise.
Must supply copies of degrees and transcripts as requested.
Documented post certificate’s experience for two (2) years, including experience within the past 24 months providing medical and or behavioral services, or an equivalent of experience, skills and education.
