Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors.
The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Medical Assistant Front Office provides support to the Student Health Center and Health Care Providers. This position assists the team to ensure a smooth-running office, maintaining appointments, walk-ins and other medical needs of the university.
The Medical Assistant maintains strict confidentiality of clinical, social, financial, or other student data in compliance with university, state and federal guidelines. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Front Office Operations Support
- Greeting and welcoming patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, and answering or referring inquiries.
- Scheduling appointments and maintain records and accounts.
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties, answering patients' questions, and maintaining the reception area.
- Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment services and repairs.
- Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
Back Office Operations Support
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepares patients for examination including vital signs.
- Ability to perform blood draws and give injections
- Saves Health Care Providers' time by helping with office procedures within their scope of practice.
- Maintains medical supplies inventory and performing preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of pharmaceutical use.
- Facilitate referrals to other health and social service agencies when appropriate.
- Promote health and wellness in areas of lifestyle and behavior that enhance physical, psychological, and social well-being.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification from an accredited vocational institution.
- CPR Certification.
- Demonstrated tact and diplomacy with the ability to work with confidential information. Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the student health services team and provide services to a diverse group of individuals.
Strong ability to make responsible decisions in compliance with health care and University Student Health Center policies and protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to understand and abide by Federal regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse parent and student populations and demonstrate sensitivity to their individual needs.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to learn and interpret university policies and procedures.
- Professional medical assistance experience in a student health center at a higher education institution.
