We have an opportunity available for a Family Support Assistant in Charlotte, Michigan. This is an onsite part time position during normal business hours, 28 hours per week.
A consistent weekly schedule will be assigned based on the Center's needs. The pay rate is $18.21 per hour.
Family Support Assistant
Reporting to the Service Center Manager, provides family support services to individuals accessing services through the agency to promote individual and family independence.
This position focuses on (but is not limited to) providing direct assistance and advocacy / referral services to eligible people with shelter and utility needs.
Required the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with landlords and utility providers.
Essential Functions
Provides family support services to individuals seeking assistance through Capital Area Community Services (CACS). Services include needs assessment, direct and referral services, advocacy, and follow-up to assist individuals in meeting basic needs.
Serves as a receptionist for the Service Center.
Provides clients and visitors with community resource information and explanations of how to access services.
Determines eligibility and assists clients with complexities related to emergency shelter and utility assistance applications to apply for needed services.
Assists people in the selection of educational enrichment activities to comply with program requirements.
Maintains up-to-date client files.
Links program participants and guests with service providers, employers, landlords, and other resources to meet their needs.
Serves as a role model to guide others along the path to self-sufficiency continuum.
Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Recommended Qualifications
Education
The job requires knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in specialized classes, vocational, trade, or business school with course work in human or social services.
Two-year degree in human services preferred. Relevant, equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years experience in the delivery of direct and information / referral services to the low-income community.
Sensitivity to the needs of others with the ability to encourage and guide others in their quest for independence.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with a diverse population in an effective manner.
Advanced computer skills required.
