Description
We are hiring a Surface Materials Marketing Intern to work with a team that supports and executes the surface materials strategy at Steelcase.
The role includes competitive analyses, supporting the sample portfolio program, collaboration with project management and exposure to global engagement.
This is a year-round internship role that consists of part-time work (15-20 hours per week) during the school year and full-time hours during the summer months.
What You Will Be Doing :
- Do you love deep diving into topics through research? You will complete competitive analyses, looking at what competition does in relation to surface materials.
- Supporting sample portfolio management. You will work with product managers and senior specialists by communicating with suppliers to obtain material samples, organizing materials labeling, cutting purchase orders, and data entry to fulfillment house systems.
- You will collaborate with Project Management. Some physical responsibilities of materials and handling their logistics (maximum of 30 lbs.)
- Does global engagement spark your interest? There may be opportunities for cross-cultural interactions with teams in Europe and Asia.
Your Future Team : Surface Materials owns the "aesthetics" of our furniture offerings. We are an essential, core aspect of our organization and business model.
We lead all textures, samples, fabrics, and all components of their processes for our furniture products. We are outgoing, composed of 8 employees locally (Grand Rapids) and 10 total globally.

Required Skills and Competencies
- Currently enrolled in applicable discipline from an accredited school
- Attending a full time matriculated and nationally accredited baccalaureate or graduate program
- Degree focused in Marketing or Business
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Preferred disciplines are Marketing, Business, Merchandising, Supply Chain
- Basic proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience working a team-based environment
- Strong technical documentation and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Reliable transportation, many of our sites do not have public transportation available
- Leadership experience inside and / or outside the classroom.
- Involvement on campus and are a creative thinker within organization involvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate clearly.
- Demonstrated creative problem solving and proactive learning.
