Position

The Engineer II – Electrical Controls Engineer position is responsible for ensuring the successful day-to-day operation and continuous improvement of various endovascular medical device manufacturing equipment within the Terumo Medical Corporation (TMC) Elkton, MD facility. In this role, the electrical controls engineer serves as a source of knowledge for the automated assembly equipment's electrical systems and automation controls, and is involved with executing small to medium-sized projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical engineering / controls knowledge in the daily operation and maintenance of production equipment and related business continuity needs. Troubleshoot electrical control systems in automated assembly equipment.
  • Provide electrical controls engineering leadership and experience to identify, execute, and implement performance and cost-reduction continuous improvement opportunities for assigned automated assembly equipment. Implement manufacturing technology like modern inspection systems, new control technology, and robotics to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.
  • Comply with FDA regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintain and follow TMC Quality System requirements, including change control, validation, documentation practices, and design control requirements.
  • Work with Quality Engineering and Production personnel in the conduct of root cause analyses of process non-conformances and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, Motion Controllers, and other automated controls. Ability to understand machine network configuration and control.
  • Knowledge and experience with common Test and Measurement Equipment and calibration requirements.
  • Ability to read schematics / drawings.
  • Hands-on experience using AutoCAD or SolidWorks (electrical package preferred).
  • Understanding of Electrical Engineering Codes (NFPA 79) and modern safety standards.
  • Participate in project team meetings to provide ideas, methods, or processes for performance improvement.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

  • Demonstrated ability to design, specify, assemble, and validate electrical control systems for assembly equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, problem solving, and analysis.
  • Ability to solve electrical and machine control problems or implement novel solutions for production processes and engineering challenges.
  • Ability to respond to challenging engineering situations and production issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate independently or within a team environment.
  • Qualifications / Background Experiences

  • Requires a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with electrical control systems of automated assembly equipment.

    Final compensation packages may be higher or lower than listed and will depend on factors including relevant experience, internal equity, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand. Salary range is $75,700 - $105,000.
