Under the direction of the UCMC Vice President of the Transplant Center, the Assistant Director manages the business operations of the Transplant Center across all organ groups to ensure consistent practices, accurate accounting practices, and budgetary oversight.

Takes a customer-service based approach in all interactions, with internal and external clients. Work with Managers / Directors of other areas in regards to departmental communication, process improvement, resource utilization and reimbursement.

Works to optimize Medicare cost accounting and profitability of service line. Manages the Section of Transplant medicine (Nephrology, Hepatology, and Pulmonology) and Transplant surgery, ensuring efficient and effective operations throughout;

plans, organizes, directs and controls activities that support the service line’s clinical, educational, and research missions.

Essential Job Functions :

Overseeing credentialing and re-credentialing of faculty and staff, both on the BSD and hospital side for the transplant institute.

Maintains academic personnel records for faculty, residents and fellows to promote goal setting, mentorship and talent management.

Manages faculty and resident personnel issues by ensuring that day-to-day needs are met and providing a conduit of information flow between residents and faculty and faculty and departmental administration.

Provide oversight for the management of business operations of the Transplant Center, including billing, charge submission, and accounts receivable.

Verify charges and ensure donor and procurement billing is correct and timely. Participating in section and operating room meetings to ensure the Transplant Institute is adequately represented.

  • Supervise and manage performance of non-clinical staff, including administrative assistants, Dotted-line report of the Financial Transplant Specialists and Manager of Organ Procurement.
  • Work with the VP in budgeting and fiscal planning for the Transplant Center and associated

areas of responsibility. Establish and maintain appropriate reporting mechanisms to track

expenses and revenue for the Transplant Center. Collaborate with UCM central accounting

personnel to ensure Medicare Cost reporting is maximized.

Manages activities related to section and Institute’s recruitment, space, facilities, and

equipment. Implements CBO plans for administrative space planning for department to

ensure that the Division’s physical property (buildings, furniture, equipment, computers,

Participate in onboarding of new staff and faculty to ensure orientation and competencies are

completed.

Required Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in Business or Health System Administration
  • Hospital experience of at least 2-4 years in a leadership role with progressive responsibilities with specific experience in dealing with fiscal oversight and operations
  • Excellent oral, and interpersonal written communication skills, poise in teaching and consulting.
  • Strong organizing and data management skills including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and graphics to design and implement monitoring and evaluation tools.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Finance experience
  • Academic medical center experience
  • Knowledge and Experience of hospital billing
