Associate Vice Chancellor of Development

The Associate Vice Chancellor of Development position is responsible for reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Government & External Relations;

overseeing all efforts to secure private giving for the University; and providing leadership and management for the direction, planning, and implementation of a comprehensive development and advancement services program.

Primary responsibilities of the position will include :

  • Develop or continue inputs with measurable goals to secure philanthropy in support of the achievement of the University’s strategic plan goals.
  • Design and implement or continue a comprehensive annual operating plan for Development and Advancement Services with measurable objectives consistent with the strategic plan.
  • Supervise the staff responsible for generating private funds in the areas of Major Gifts, Annual Giving and Planned Giving and the Advancement Services staff who support them.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate annual performance measures required for successful Major Gift fundraising outcomes : specific donor-related strategies, visits, solicitations, proposals, dollars raised.
  • Work closely with University leadership including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Government & External Relations, Campus Vice Chancellors, Deans, University Trustees, and Foundation Directors on issues relating to leadership prospect cultivation, solicitation, and strategies for achieving University priorities.
  • Support the Vice Chancellor for Government & External Relations in staffing the Board of Trustees’ Development Committee and the Board of Directors of the Troy University Foundation.
  • Support the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Government & External Relations in the management of a portfolio of the University’s top 30 to 40 prospective donors and coordinate that work with the development officer to whom those prospects are assigned.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of at least 40 key prospects.
  • Assess and oversee implementation of best practices for a successful Annual Giving program including : coordination of annual appeals, face-to-face solicitation of Leadership Gifts, phonathon, volunteer calling, mail and email solicitations and support of volunteer leadership.
  • Work in concert with Deans, faculty, other directors and volunteer leadership to increase the number of donors and the level of Annual Fund giving.
  • Promote and facilitate the relationship of Annual Giving to all other individual giving programs, particularly Major Gifts.
  • Establish or continue appropriate performance goals for Annual Giving staff.
  • Design or continue and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive planned giving program coordinated with the Annual Giving and Major Gifts programs.
  • Oversee the development and implementation or continue, of a comprehensive stewardship plan.
  • Facilitate ongoing dialogue with University units critical to fundraising success.
  • Conduct substantive performance reviews for each direct report at least once per year and oversee the performance review process for the entire development and advancement services staff.
  • Develop guidelines or continue, for a substantive orientation process for development officers new to the institution.
  • Arrange for appropriate training and professional development to be available and utilized for all Development and Advancement Services staff.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of the development process, including Advancement Services, Alumni Affairs, and Stewardship.
  • Proven ability to manage and to lead.
  • Ability to motivate both staff and volunteers.
  • Commitment to excellence.
  • Well-developed communication skills and strong writing ability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer and office software skills.
  • Ability to work with University leadership at the highest levels of involvement.
  • Affinity for the institution.

Preferred Qualifications :

Master’s degree in a related field.

Work Hours : Standard office hours.
