The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University is excited to invite applicants to a non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of clinical assistant or clinical associate professor in small animal soft tissue surgery with an anticipated start date in Spring 2023.

The Soft Tissue and Minimally Invasive Surgery Service is expanding from three full-time faculty to four and serves a critical role in student education, patient care, and scholarship.

The service is also staffed with three technicians, a service liaison, and a rotation of five to six surgical residents.

The successful candidate will devote approximately 65% time (negotiable) to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital on the Soft Tissue and Minimally Invasive Surgery Service.

The remaining time will be devoted to integrative classroom and laboratory teaching (15%), research and other scholarly activities (10%), and academic citizenship (10%).

Clinical responsibilities will include primary management of cases, instruction of veterinary students, mentorship of interns and residents, and participation in after-hours surgical emergency coverage.

Classroom and laboratory teaching responsibilities will include education of professional students in our integrated curriculum and opportunities to interface with graduate students across multiple disciplines.

Additionally, we expect the successful candidate will engage in collaborative research program that aligns with expertise in the department, college, and university and builds collaborations with other basic and clinical scientists.

Teamwork and collaboration are highly valued at Texas A&M University, and candidates are expected to demonstrate institutional citizenship that may include service to committees, working groups, and professional organizations.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital includes sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment, including a new laparoscopy / thoracoscopy tower and VITOM with fluorescence (NIR / ICG), intraoperative fluoroscopy units, surgical microscopy, smoke evacuation, cell salvage (autotransfusion), and multiple LigaSure devices.

The 7 surgical suites are well-equipped and supported by a team of dedicated surgical technicians, allowing a surgical technician to be present for the duration of each surgical procedure.

A 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, and CT Tomotherapy unit are housed in an onsite imaging center. The teaching hospital has capable personnel including, but not limited to talented ICU technicians, an active multidisciplinary interventional radiology service, two in-house pharmacists with compounding capability, and a clinical trials coordinator.

A generous start-up package will be available commensurate with the clinical or scholarly needs and record of the individual.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences and an active group of house officers that includes more than 50 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical disciplines.
