PURPOSEAND SCOPE :
Theprofessional registered nurse Inpatient Services RN CAP 1 is anentry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program(CAP).
This position is accountable and responsible for theprovision and coordination of clinically competent care includingassessment, planning, intervention and evaluation for an assignedgroup of patients.
This may include delegation of appropriate tasksto direct patient care staff including but not limited to RNs,LVN / LPNs and Patient Care Technicians.
As a member of the kidneydisease health care team, this position participates indecision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and qualityimprovement activities that enhance patient care outcomes andprogram operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
All duties andresponsibilities are expected to be performed in accordance withFresenius Kidney Care, policy, procedures, standards of nursingpractice, applicable contractual service agreements, state andfederal regulations.
- Performs all essentialfunctions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidancefrom the Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with anotherRegistered Nurse.
- Performs ongoing, systematiccollection and analysis of patient data pre - during - posttreatment for assigned patients and documents in the patientmedical record, makes adjustments and modifications to treatmentplan as indicated and notifies Supervisor, Physician, patient'sprimary nurse and others as may beindicated.
- Assesses, collaborates and documentspatient / family's basic learning needs to provide initial andongoing education to patients andfamily.
- Recognizes aspects and implications ofpatient status that vary from normal and reports to or collaborateswith appropriate health team members for input including but notlimited to Supervisor, appropriate physician, and the contractedfacility primary Nurse.
- Directs and providessafe effective patient care for assigned patients as prescribed forall modality specific treatmentprocedures.
- Assesses daily assigned patientcare needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary patient carestaff as needed.
- Initiates and coordinatescommunication with FKC and Non-FKC dialysis providers andappropriate contracted facility personnel as needed to providecontinuity of patient care.
- Performs theimplementation, administration, monitoring, and documentation ofpatient's response to prescribed intradialytic transfusions,including appropriate notification of adverse reactions tophysician and appropriate bloodsupplier.
- Administers medications as prescribedand documents appropriate medical justification andeffectiveness.
- Initiates and assists withemergency response measures.
- Serves as aresource for health care team, participates in staff training andorientation of new staff as assigned.
- May beasked to provide specialized nursing care instruction tohospital / facility staff as stipulatedcontractually.
- May be assigned to assist in anOutpatient facility on an as needed basis.
- Required to complete CAP requirements toadvance.
- Performs all other duties as assignedby Supervisor.

The position providesdirect patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting, movingof patients and assisting with ambulation.

- Thisposition requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and theemployee must be able to bend over.
- Theemployee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance,machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs., and may lift chemical andwater solutions of up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet.
- The work environment is characteristic of ahealth care facility with air temperature control and moderatenoise levels.
- May be exposed to infectious andcontagious diseases / materials.
- May be asked toprovide essential functions of this position in other locationswith the same physical demands and working conditions as describedabove.
- Day to day work includes, desk work,computer work, interaction with patients, facility / hospital staffand physicians.
- The position requires travel totraining / meeting sites and between assignedfacilities.
- Position requires participation inon-call rotation, night, weekend, holiday or as defined byindividual program needs.
SUPERVISION :
Assigned oversight ofPatient Care Technicians / LVN / LPNs / RNs as a designated Nurse inCharge, after meeting all the following :
- Successful completion of all FKC education and modality specifictraining requirements for new employees.
- Musthave a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN.
- 6 months experience in acute dialysis as aRN.
EDUCATION andLICENSURE :
- Currentappropriate state licensure.
- Current orsuccessful completion of CPR BLSCertification
- Must meet the practicerequirements in all states employed.
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREDSKILLS :
- Entry level for RNswith less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the lasttwo years as an RN
- Minimum 9 months experienceas a Registered Nurse, 12 months (preferred).
- 6months acute dialysis experience(preferred)
- Hemodialysis and / or ICU experience(preferred).
