Job Summary

The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) assists with patient care under the direction of and RN, MD, PA or NP. All patient care team members act to meet patient needs and learn new skills to achieve quality patient care and customer service.

Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other, other staff, and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to age specific needs and cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.

For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $41.49 - $41.49 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Emergency Department at UCSF Medical Center provides care to patients with urgent medical conditions ranging from complex problems such as heart attacks and strokes to simple but pressing conditions such as cuts and broken bones.

Care is provided 24 hours a day, serving more than 40,000 patients a year.

Our team includes board-certified emergency medicine specialists, nurses trained in emergency and critical care and other specialists who are called upon as needed in areas such as gynecology, neurology, obstetrics, orthopedics, pediatrics and surgery.

Required Qualifications

  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job description
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition and subtraction)
  • Ability to organize and effectively set priorities
  • Willingness to be taught / learn new skills
  • The ability to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology appropriate to the responsibilities of the job
  • EMT / paramedic training or nursing student who has completed med-surg rotation

License / Certification

Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
