Summary :
The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinicalsetting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness ofall relevant aspects of a situation.
Provides routine and complexcare, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continuesto develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies ofclinical nursing.
Makes appropriate assignments and delegates toother care providers as a means to help manage the clinicalsituation.
This position is specificto the Mother Baby Department.
Responsibilities :

- Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standardsof Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process,including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention andevaluation for assigned patients.
- Addressesincreasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and socialneeds of patient and families in accordance with their level ofpractice.
- Using the appropriate protocol, administersmedications and treatments; monitors for side-effects andeffectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
- Documentspatient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
- Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, familymembers and / or care givers; identify issues and resources.

- Relates examples of mis-readings ormisinterpretations and lessons learned
- Reviews,discusses and validates own interpretation with others
Patient Safety

- 1 year of experience in the related nursingspecialty preferred
- Perinatal RNResidency, or recently practicing in a Perinatal Setting ispreferred.
Education :
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing,preferred
- All newly hired experienced RNsmust attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days ofhire.
- New hires are precepted by a designatedtrained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements arevalidated through successful completion of the designatedorganizational entry competency validation anda Perinatal Department -specific competencyvalidation.
- Completion of all annualcompetency verification requirements.
Licenses / Certifications / Registrations :
- BLS required
- RNLicense in state of employment orcompact
- Current STABLE(Post-resuscitation / Pre-transport Stabilization Care of SickInfants) certification from one of the following courses : Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor at time of hireor prior to the end of orientation for experienced nurses;
within90 days of hire for new graduates and experienced nurses new to thespecialty then required to maintain course certificationthereafter.
Current NRP certification at timeof hire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduatesand experienced nurses new to the specialty then required tomaintain certification thereafter.
