Salary Range : $72K - $75K
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations are included in various system designs.
- Work with local 1-2 designers in the design, reinforcement, and expansion of the electrical distribution systems for load relief or reliability work.
- Provide instruction and guidance in the development of service determination and construction layouts.
- Review and sign off on distribution layouts, B&A's and feeder sequences.
- Ensure that the plans and drawings for the design, reinforcement, expansion, and maintenance of the electric distribution systems are prepared in compliance with operating procedures and engineering plans and specifications.
- Prepare necessary documents and technical data required to process major projects for Work Order Approval through the appropriation process.
- Assist Engineering Managers in the preparation of Capital Budget.
- Review progress of various projects to ensure their completion is within the required timeframe and budget.
- Establish and maintain tracking reports identifying metrics related to reportable performance metrics and project status.
- Establish feeder ratings and evaluate new business projects for their impact on distribution equipment.
- Analyze Distribution Reliability and evaluate different proposed projects' impact on the associated reliability metric.
- Evaluate and supervise the use of computer applications to perform engineering calculations and layouts.
- Assess training needs and take corrective actions as required.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and review work routines / processes to identify improvement opportunities, and where appropriate, develop and implement corrective measures.
- Direct and track the activities required to update all distribution maps including M&S plates, C&DO plates, and feeder prints within the required deadlines.
- Develop a full understanding of the various company distribution facility maps and diagrams to ensure proper and timely updates for business continuity and operation.
- Provide off-hour and weekend support in the event of storms, system contingencies, or customer outages.
- Monitor and provide engineering analysis for the network and non-network system during emergency events.
- Represent the Company at meetings with customers, contractors, governmental officials, consulting engineers, lawyers, and other Company personnel regarding electric service and distribution, method of supply, and feasibility to ensure compliance with Company procedures and specifications.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Required Education / Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Energy, Math, Physics, or Computer Science. Full-time or internship experience will count towards the one-year minimum of work experience requirement;
Candidates that have participated in the company's full-time college cooperative or summer cooperative internships for a minimum of six months meet the EP experience requirements.
- Less than 2 years of relevant work experience (including engineering co-op and internships). Con Edison internship experience applies to this requirement.
- Must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational, analytical, and technical skills.
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to diplomatically interact with internal and external customers, support staff, and various levels of management.
- Must possess general knowledge of computer systems, MS Office products, and CAD applications.
- Must have an understanding of engineering drawings and map reading.
- Experience working with a unionized workforce (Preferred).
- Knowledge of programming languages (Preferred).
- Experience with engineering-related projects (Preferred).
- Understanding of various computer systems and software applications, including Work Management System, Logica, Demand Aggregator (Preferred).
- Knowledge of Electric Operations, which includes equipment, cable, and splicing associated with underground and / or overhead installation and associated construction standards (Preferred).
- Experience with distribution electrical equipment (Preferred).

Other Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and / or other high-energy systems.
- Must wear all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), including fire retardant clothing and safety harness.
- Must climb in and out of manholes and excavations.
- Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces).
- Walking, climbing, driving, and site visits are required.
- Must be able and willing to work off-hour shifts, including nights and weekends, as needed.
- Must be able and willing to work extended hours beyond the regular workday, as needed.
