Department Summary :

MITRE’s Data Science department is looking for qualified applicants to bring their machine learning, advanced analytics, and applied research skills to bear on solving problems of critical national importance.

Roles & Responsibilities :

The successful candidate for this position is an experienced data scientist leader who combines a solid theoretical and technical background with the ability to formulate problems, design and evaluate solutions, implement hands-on solutions, and communicate results to a variety of audiences.

Proficiency with advanced data science techniques and methods (e.g., supervised and unsupervised machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning) is required.

Candidate must have demonstrated leadership and technical experience in :

• Applying Advanced Analytics Techniques
• Understands mechanisms underlying popular machine learning techniques and their associated constraints / limitations, as well as the considerations involved in choosing which technique or algorithm to use for a problem
• Apply data science rigor throughout the machine learning lifecycle to ensure reproducibility and trustworthiness.
• Develop, test and evaluate, and demonstrate data science and machine learning solutions.
• Architecting Cloud and Big Data Analytics Solutions
• Understands how advanced analytics techniques can realistically be applied to meet a variety of real-world mission requirements
• Has knowledge of cloud computing solutions, particularly commercial cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Leading and Growing Data Science Engagements
• Leads project-level and / or task-level analytics engagements, providing day-to-day oversight of analytical capability development
• Provides technical leadership on projects, either to junior staff or as a member of team as a stand-alone senior subject matter expert
• Translates complex results into actionable recommendations that can be understood by senior leadership and non-technical audiences
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills

Basic Qualifications :

Minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field;

or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years of hands-on relevant experience using data science techniques, including statistical analysis, mathematical optimization, machine learning, deep learning, or reinforcement learning.

• Experience using existing Machine learning frameworks
• Proficient in Python and SQL
• Must be a US Citizen eligible to obtain a US Government Security Clearance
• This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications :

• Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
• Knowledge or experience with trusted machine learning
• Experience applying deep learning techniques
• Possess an active US Government clearance
