Duties

As the Marketing Specialist in this position, you will :

Perform research, analytical and regulatory work related to the marketing of milk and milk products and / or commodities under

the provision of Federal Milk Marketing Orders.

  • Perform plant observations and record review for accuracy / consistency as they relate to reporting under Federal Milk Marketing Orders.
  • Prepare work papers and related documentation to support findings related to record review.
  • Represent the Market Administrator office in contact with the dairy industry and co-workers in a manner which consistently demonstrates fairness, cooperation, and respect in the performance of all official business.

NOTE : This position falls under pay bands MA 10-22. Selectee's pay will be set between the MA 10-22 pay bands based on years of education and / or experience.

  • There is a required one-year probationary period.
  • This is a non-bargaining unit position.
  • The selectee's pay will be set between pay bands MA 10 - 22
  • Driver's license is required.
  • Must have an insured personal operating vehicle for driving purposes. Travel is generally via own transportation, air travel and rental car.

Mileage, lodging and per diem is paid when assignments are outside of the assigned duty station.

  • Must be able to walk in manufacturing plant environments with wet floor and moving equipment.
  • Must be able to carry, lift, and move heavy items up to 25lbs. This may include but is not limited to a laptop computer, accessories, work-papers, luggage and boxes of records.
  • Must be able to climb ramps and stairs to reach platforms for observations and measurements.
  • A physical examination will be required upon selection.
  • Relocation expense is not paid, applicants are responsible for any relocation expenses.
  • The position requires travel from 50-75 percent of the work schedule; primarily in Texas and New Mexico. For most out-of town assignments, employees will travel early Monday morning and return on Friday evening.
  • Work at a milk processing plant requires observation of procedures outside, or inside different buildings on the plant site.

Some procedures, such as physical inventory observations, may require late night hours.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and / or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.

Basic Requirement : Applicants must have bachelor's degree in marketing, economics, business administration, agriculture, agricultural economics, agricultural business, accounting, statistics, mathematics, or dairy science.

Applicants must have the appropriate years of general experience in one or more aspects of agricultural marketing functions such as distribution, inspection, storage, transportation, merchandising, standardizing etc.

The duties and responsibilities should have equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the grade level of the position to be filled.

Professional Experience Qualification Requirements :

The basic requirement above will qualify applicants at the MA-10-12 paybands.

MA 13-17

In addition to the above-stated basic requirement, in order to qualify at the MA-13-17, applicants must have had 6 months or more of Specialized experience as follows : 1) Providing examination of production, sales or inventory to determine the accuracy of reported data;

2) Preparation of work papers and related documentation to support inspection findings and conclusions; (3) Documenting findings and recommendations (4) Knowledge of marketing functions and practices that may include knowledge of or experience with commodity exchanges and markets, agricultural trade, or the practices and methods involved in various agricultural marketing or agricultural business operations.

MA -18

In addition to the above-stated basic requirement, in order to qualify at the MA-18, applicants must have one year of Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade.

Specialized experience as follows : 1) Providing examination of production, sales or inventory to determine the accuracy of reported data;

2) Preparation of work papers and related documentation to support inspection findings and conclusions; (3) Documenting findings and recommendations (4) Knowledge of marketing functions and practices that may include knowledge of or experience with commodity exchanges and markets, agricultural trade, or the practices and methods involved in various agricultural marketing or agricultural business operations.

There is no substitution of education for Specialized experience.

Part-time or unpaid experience : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer or unpaid experience : Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.

e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community;

student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
