The Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science (PETS) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for multiple faculty positions in pharmacoepidemiology.

We are seeking exceptional researchers at all career stages (Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) who are dedicated to developing or maintaining their own independent research programs, have a commitment to collaborative work and graduate teaching, and show the ability to be leaders in the field of pharmacoepidemiology.

Successful candidates will have an established track record of publication and funding commensurate with their career stage.

PETS is committed to building a strong, energetic cohort of researchers and teachers in pharmacoepidemiology who are dedicated to academic excellence and research that improves the health and wellness of individuals and populations.

In addition to their appointment at PETS, applicants will receive academic appointments at Rutgers University as relevant to their background, including but not limited to the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey Medical School, or the School of Public Health.

The majority of the faculty’s effort will be dedicated to pharmacoepidemiology research and the PETS Center. The position is full-time, tenure- or research-track, with a competitive start-up, full support for 3 years, and the expectation of having substantial grant support, commensurate with their career stage, by the beginning of the 4th year on the PETS faculty Position Status Full Time Posting Number 24FA0799 Posting Open Date Posting Close Date 12 / 31 / 2024 Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience The ideal candidate will have :

  • A doctorate degree and doctorate-level training in pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology, or related disciplines (or a clinical degree with Master’s level training in these fields).
  • A strong track record of peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • A research focus in the field of pharmacoepidemiology.
  • Postdoctoral training; a K-award, R21 or R34 funding, and / or other evidence of preparation to become R01-funded principal investigators;

R01 or comparable funding (as appropriate for the candidate’s career stage). Certifications / Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -Excellent organization, research, planning, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Enthusiasm for contributing to and expanding an innovative program in pharmacoepidemiology research and training Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment Overview Established in 2017, the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science (PETS) facilitates and performs innovative, multidisciplinary science related to the use and outcomes of therapeutics and diagnostics in large populations.

Its mission is to advance pharmacoepidemiology and related fields by conducting world-class research and facilitating high-quality training.

Core faculty members possess expertise in the study of therapeutics and diagnostics including the analysis of large databases, observational research methods and interventional studies.

The Center brings together faculty from various schools, departments, and institutes at Rutgers as well as colleagues from academia, industry, and regulatory agencies with expertise ranging from epidemiology, biostatistics, and biomedical informatics to clinical medicine, economics, and the social sciences.

Substantial administrative and clinical data resources are available for research.

PETS facilitates training in pharmacoepidemiology for graduate students across relevant disciplines at Rutgers who want to focus their research on questions related to use and outcomes of therapeutics and diagnostics.

PETS is located within the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH). Founded in 1985 and located on the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the IFH is a vibrant, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to scholarly collaboration and research that focuses on critical questions related to healthcare services and policy, population health, aging, and health, and mental health.

Its core and associate members include 82 outstanding faculty who have generated award-winning scholarship that has influenced fields including medical sociology, economics, health psychology, gerontology, history of medicine, nursing, public health, psychiatry, global health, health services, medicine, social work, pharmacy, medical ethics, and health policy.

Several research centers exist within the IFH including the Center for State Health Policy; Center for Health Services Research;

and PETS. Faculty members have held research and training grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and other major funding organizations.

The IFH has served as home to six faculty elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Faculty are actively involved in mentoring future scholars at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate level.

The Institute is housed in a 57,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, custom-built academic and research facility located in the heart of New Brunswick, a diverse city with easy access to public transportation to New York City and Philadelphia.

The IFH has faculty and other researchers with considerable expertise in the social and clinical sciences, health research and policy, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, and related fields.

The faculty have exceptional capacity to address the most pressing health and healthcare challenges. Considerable expertise exists in the analysis of large, integrated health-related clinical and administrative datasets, national surveys, Medicaid, Medicare, and other private insurance data with the application of social science theory and advanced statistical techniques.
