Salary range : A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $66,259 - $86,453. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and / or step at appointment.

Position description

With a commitment to excellence and diversity, the University of California, San Diego Department of Education Studies (EDS) invites applications for the position of Supervisor of Teacher Education.

We are seeking applicants who have expertise in teaching linguistically and culturally diverse students and in mentoring or supervising teachers.

Supervisors teach courses identified for student and / or intern teaching seminars, student and / or intern teaching field experiences, and teaching performance assessment.

This is a part-time position for a cohort-based program. Screening of applicants begins and continues as needed. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one year as needed;

some appointments begin in the fall quarter and others in winter and spring quarters. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter and may be renewed based on need and performance.

EDS is an interdisciplinary department committed to equity and grounded in a close intersection between research and practice.

Academic offerings include undergraduate education minors, professional preparation programs in elementary, secondary, and Deaf education, and two doctoral programs.

EDS Faculty research interests include linguistic and cultural diversity, teacher learning, leadership, and policy, school leadership and change, family and school partnerships, and uses of educational technology in teaching and learning.

Teaching Responsibilities :

Potential EDS courses : EDS 349, EDS 369ABC, EDS 379ABC

Supervisors are expected to provide high-quality instruction, mentorship, and supervision to a cohort of pre-service student and / or intern teachers according to California Teaching Commission and program requirements.

  • Specific duties include : assisting in program events, trainings, and meetings; assisting with student teacher field placements and communicating with cooperating teachers;
  • reading and responding to candidate lesson plans and other written materials each week; conducting a minimum of four formal classroom observations per candidate each quarter at assigned placement school sites during the P-12 school day;

attending evening seminar courses; and completing candidate evaluations, program reports, and required documentation according to deadlines.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at the time of application)

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid California clear teaching credential authorizing English learner instruction;
  • 5 or more years of outstanding teaching in public schools;
  • At least 6 years of mentoring and / or supporting student teachers, intern teachers, and / or apprentice teachers;
  • At least 6 years of experience working with (or in) San Diego County Schools;
  • At least 6 years of experience following the most current, adopted California P-12 content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems;
  • At least 2 years of experience working on collaborative teams;
  • At least 5 years of strong and demonstrated commitment to furthering equity, diversity, and the improvement of public education.

Preferred qualifications

  • California credential(s) in an additional content area or in Special Education; Bilingual Authorization and / or bilingual skills;
  • At least 1 quarter / semester of experience teaching at the post-secondary level;
  • At least 1 year of experience recruiting and preparing secondary teachers;
  • Expertise in education technology.
