Shift, weekend, and holiday work is required.
- High School graduation or G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma issued by a State Department of Education.
- Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least twelve credit hours in Criminal Justice, Chemistry, Biology, Forensic Science, or a closely related scientific field.
Official transcripts must be presented to the New Orleans Civil Service Department within two (2) weeks of application.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Five (5) years of full-time experience in crime scene investigation.
Note : Additional crime scene investigator experience may substitute for the required college credit at the rate of one (1) year of related experience equals 30 hours (one year) of college credits.
This position requires a one-year probationary period.
A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes;
however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for related experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
Note : The Police Department will conduct a background investigation which will include a voice stress test, a urinalysis to detect usage of illegal narcotic substances, and a check of arrest and conviction record.
