About The Position
Job Title : Pharmacy Technician Job Specialty : Pharmacy Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Variable 8-hour shift, 4x10 hours / week with variable weekends rotation Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : Minimum years of experience not specified License : Registered Pharmacy Technician - TX State Board of Pharmacy or Pharmacy Intern - State Board of Pharmacy Certifications : IV Certification required Must-Have : Ability to read, write, and speak English Job Description : Assist the pharmacist in the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications.
- Perform tasks associated with dispensing medications for patients from infancy to adulthood.- Assist in the procurement, record-keeping, storage, and distribution of all controlled substances.
- Ensure the appropriateness of medication doses by correctly inputting patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area in the system.
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control protocol in the preparation of sterile products.- Complete annual recertification and score at least 90% on the aseptic technique / infection control skills and written exam.
- Encourage other technicians and pharmacists to practice aseptic technique and infection control.- Ensure medications prepared are correct and verified by the pharmacist, documenting no dispensing errors.
- Demonstrate competence in batch / medication / prescription order entry.- Collaborate with Pharmacy Support Services personnel to maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies.
- Adhere to procedures established for stock replacement and non-formulary processes.- Obtain pharmacist initial / final checks and assign dilution and expiration labels to medications according to department standards.
- Possess knowledge of current hospital and departmental standards for the handling of pharmaceuticals.- Exhibit math skills, reading skills, and good communication skills.
- Operate equipment used in the preparation of sterile products effectively.
